Anyone seen the commercials for this? Al jazeera, major middle eastern news network is starting news in America. Now I'm all for news that gets the story out there, but isn't this the media used by our enemies? Did they not show the beheadings of American contractors captured by al quedas? Didn't bin laden send videos to al jazeera to spread his orders to his minions? I bet it is more than just the news like they advertise. Can anyone tell my why they're here?

Simple, Your Congress threw out the "Foreign Ownership" rule to accept bribes from an Australian. 
Now any one can buy from anywhere, and Ted Turner (Hero to the Anti Viet Nam war movement ) Sold his company to Al Jazeera. 
On the Plus side, Their reporting of world news is not influenced as much by American commercial, Political interests. 
So far they haven't been bought by The Koch Brothers!!

The news that Al Gore chose to sell his Current TV to Al Jazeera, which some think of as Muslim Brotherhood TV, recently has raised eyebrows. But what few people realize is that Fox chief Rupert Murdoch already co-owns what amounts to a Muslim Brotherhood channel in the Middle East.
The channel is Al Risala, which translates into “the (Islamic) message.” It was launched in 2006 by Saudi prince Talal bin Alwaleed, the nephew of the King of Saudi Arabia and a Murdoch business associate who also owns a 7 percent stake in Murdoch’s News Corp., the parent company of Fox News and other U.S. media outlets.

****BTW vlad, Al Jazeera TV has been on PBS for quite awhile. Sharing news between the US and the radical Muslims (Al Qaeda) in the Middle East is crazy, it's like sleeping with the enemy!!

I don't think all arabs are bad, but several times over there makes me leary of fully trusting any of them when my back is turned ... ok... marchin time

When I was still in the Air Force and oversees, I'd often see Al Jazeera's World Edition news channel. Now, when I think of the middle east and anything that originates there, I don't immediately get warm fuzzies, but it's actually pretty good. The perspective is a little different but it's not like "Down with America... Convert to Islam now!" And last Spring, I actually would turn straight to Al Jazeera because they were still covering world news, while the American channels had turned into "Trayvon Martin, ALL DAY, EVERY DAY."

who, in their right mind, would trust news from any network regardless of religious affiliation? we all have opinions but i've found that the more opinions i can hear, no matter the religious or political affiliation, the more i can understand humanity. it's when we tune into only that media in which we 'trust' that all of this f**ked up partisan bickering happens.

There was a time when I trusted our news media without question--- then I started wondereing-- now I wonder if I can/ will ever trust them again.... To me it was/is a Major part of America but my feelings have changed..and wonder a lot.
