widower1953 Grand Rapids, MI 64, joined May. 2013	I quit smoking almost 3 years ago using Chantix. I was able to quit after the first month of use. I was smoking about 3 packs a day at the time. It was the smartest thing I have ever did. Chantix has some pretty strong side effects, like thoughts of suicide, weird, vivid, strange or in color dreams, to mention a few of them. Well I didn't have any thoughts of suicide, but I do a person that did, at which point he said he quit taking it and consulted his doctor. He said he went cold turkey after that. I don't want to scare you about the suicide part but it effects a really small percentage of people. As for the weird, vivid, strange or in color dreams I had to laugh because I already had those before I even started the Chantix. Not sure if this help's or not but good luck quitting.

I am in the middle of the 2nd week of taking Chantix. I have had no adverse side effects..actually I sleep better. No changes in mood either. My quit day was this past Tuesday, and I have smoked 5 cigarettes since then. My physician said that I should not quit quitting. The hardest part for me is I live alone, so nobody to say.. "ahem" are you sure you want to do that?

widower1953 Grand Rapids, MI 64, joined May. 2013	This is how I was able to quit using Chantix. I was a 3 pack a day smoker. I had a smoker’s hacking cough to begin with. I was in my third week of using Chantix that I caught a really terrible cold. I was coughing non stop for hours on end and couldn’t even sleep it was so bad. I got to the point where I had enough, that was it. I was done. What really helped was when I had the urge to light up I would tell myself if you want to start hacking again go right ahead light one up. What also helped was when my Aunt told me about my Uncle how he had the same hacking cough and one day he couldn't stop coughing and cough so hard it caused him to have a heart attack and it killed him. He was only 49 years old. Yeah don’t give up quitting, because once you do, about 2 months later you’re going to feel a whole bunch of energy that you haven’t felt in a long time. I understand about being alone when trying to quit, its really hard, but it would harder being with someone that smokes

I too smoked over 25 years ago. be careful when talking on the phone or some other time that you are used to having a smoke. change your behavior in a positive manner and you will be successful in kicking the habit!!!! Good luck and quit....the habit!!
