Lay your cuttings in the sun with other plants until a callous forms (for the vine I think you're speaking of about 3 to 5 days) then add cuttings to a sand or vermiculite cupand flood with wwater. After a few weeks you should see roots and can plant normally. If you have a stalk you can split the bottom inch or so and spread open with a toothpick to encourage faster rooting.
