I called Dell directly and ordered an Inspiron 15. I like it and for the most part, haven't had many problems. I've had it since 2011.

Depends on if you want a crap machine which you will stretch 10 years, or a custom built machine that will sail through 10 years.
I built mine part-by-part last may. Better than any dell crap for sure..

I've had plenty of good experience with Dell's. Look at the Optiplex or Latitude line though. The enterprise models are better built.
With desktops and laptops going for under $500 it shouldn't matter too much what you get unless you're looking at high performance.
