So I recently created an Etsy account for animation and comic commission artwork. I was curious if anyone else has ever had any luck on this site, as I've never really been to it myself. To list an item is only about $0.20, so I don't see the harm in trying

You may want to create a regular website where you can talk about you, your projects & work, ideas and what not and then have a link to your Etsy site so folks know where & how to buy your stuff.

Y'know, summer is drawing near and if you hadn't, you may want to consider some of your comic art on clothes - tees, hats, towels and what not.

By the way, don't sell out of your own pocket. That's a hard lesson most self-made retailers have to learn. Just because you wouldn't pay $X for something does not mean Joe & Mary Sixpack wouldn't. Don't price yoursel so low that you're not making anything. People worry too much about pricing themselves too high but truth is most novice retailers price themselves too low.

Some people use this site to sell their t-shirts or soaps. They just ask that you pay shipping. Your comic strip on a t-shirt would be a great idea. You should ship from a PO Box though, so no one has your home address. Be safe.

I guess my comment ..comes pretty late.

I used to be partners with an older fellow , who had a woodshop ..building and repairing antique and handmade furniture.

He order me to build tons of small crafts ..ranging from hand made hope chest too jewelry boxes , wine boxes , display cases , and more...

The woodshop was set up near my home in the state of Georgia and he resided in North Carolina.

A majority of his sales were made from the website you speak of...

He was pretty successful at keeping constant buisiness and sales through "Etsy"

I worked with the guy for about 3 years ..who kept a regular account their during the whole time.

However I myself never browsed the website myself...other than viewing our companies page every now and then.
He managed all that end of the buisiness.

The guy was a piggish a**hole I didn't like working with too much..so I eventually parted my ways with the fellow.

..but for him , I'd say the site helped him a great bit.

....

As for the person who commented above me..who mentioned soap..

I too know of a local woman
, who owns a small buisiness teaching soap making classes , and uses etsy to sale a line of home made tools for soap making projects.. in which I used to build for her.

She sold ..a variety of soap tools and soap products.
And she has been successfully been doing buisines from their website for several years.

You will get a lot more exposure with eBay although they do charge more. I've heard that etsy is just for vintage stuff? Is it also for art of any age?
