Read up on it. Very effective from what I have read thus far. In the process of contacting a couple of Judo instructors so I can find out more about the form from their perspectives. The one thing that I do know about Judo in that it is focused on submissions and throws that tends to throw the body off balance. Knowing a great deal of submissions and learning the throws would be a great start......gamer

Judo has been known to be an effective style at close range...grappling....momentum..leverage...and joint manipulation...
It has been used by some ufc fighters..(Rhonda Rousey)...and a couple of others...and can be effective....
But no matter what the style...the fighter is what counts...not the style.

One wrestling season in HS i wrestled for a new coach that was like 5th in college NCAAs and he said wrestle and I'll teach you something you can get away on mat with ...basic judo leverage but for his success he had a college make him their coach...funny thing i returned a quicker basketball player and stronger too...about decipline is knowing the same foundamentals taught in military services are taught in sports...any industry likes deciplined hires because in real life decipline is not taught, its self earned thru motivational confidence surroundings...take selling cars they teach you to sell a car but you come disciplined already that's why they recruit military people and that comes from the inside like from inside motivation taught in service from simple things called responsibilities to succeed in life...I'm on smartphone sorry if this reads as it does but one last thing if you now someting your foe doesn't you dont have to brag you know self defense..let them try to strike you first , theyll be so surprise that you're calm and disciplined to protect yourself timely...jmo

It is the person but it is also what you do.
Judo Is traditional martial arts. usually so far removed from it's origins, that it has become confusing useless crap, catering to sissys and children. The theory is good but the practice is not.
If you want to learn, traditional martial arts are good.
If you want to do, go with wrestling.
But remember its a sport.
Or wait for One Only Martial Arts
And get both

For me, it comes down to how well my master your form of martial arts and have the ability to counter flaws that your form may have that will heave you vulnerable to attacks unforeseen. Judo can be an effective if you take into account the counter strikes and submissions that comes about. That will require much training, sparring with other individuals in different forms, and dedication. But you can say that for any martial art.....gamer

Word. Every style has it's pros and cons. It's just that certain styles have more pros or cons than others. That's how MMA came about. Any style can be useful in the right circumstance though.

Don't wanna bust any bubbles but
Girls are just not as "strong" as guys.
So a traditional martial art works well for girls.
I TEACH THE BEST WAY TO FIGHT.

I TEACH THE BEST WAY TO FIGHT.
