I have a Border Jack (Parson Jack Russell/Border Collie mix)and the Jack Russell side is known for being biters because they are a hunting breed. My pup is 8 months old. He had to be taught not to NOT bite but what was acceptable. Pups respond to how their mom and litter mates would react to bad behavior. Pup gets out of line grab him by the scruff of the neck. He'll holler for a moment then should relax and submit. I put my pup on the floor when I do this. Also, speaking in terms of a pack if someone gets out of line they are ignored. So, instead of giving any attention do not look at your pup, move your hands and arms out of his reach and don't say anything to him. He should walk away...works when they get over excited and need to calm down. Never use their NAME and the word NO together. Their name should never be a negative. Use food rewards for good behavior during training. Small bit size pieces of a favorite food...cheese or meat. My pup isn't perfect but the nipping issue is history. If he grabs a hand in play it's very gentle...how he was taught was acceptable.

Said their build and size keeps them from having broken bones so easily. Jack Russells that I have been around are more fiesty than the Rat Terrier and have energy galore.
