For me successful is one that owns, maintains, and keeps in function everything they have. Like their home, house, vehicles, business, their furniture’s, appliances, tools, etc. If more than 5% of the things they say they own is in any type of credit, finance, mortgage, collateral, IOU…not successful.
Good credit is slightly successful. Being debt free is ingenious-successful.
Being poor or being rich does not define success. It defines contentment, mediocre, accomplished, self-determination.
Being too lazy to provide for the necessities like living expenses and roof instead of bridge as a home would be successful if they owned the bridge. (Not my type.)
You want know when I drew up this conclusion???
When I got my truck reposed in 2009.

The answer depends on what successful means, but if you are talking about someone who is looking for a partner in life, at least from my point of view, after assuming she is honest, faithful, and all the usual stuff, I would have to have:
1. Someone who can go with me to professional events, dinners, social events, etc. which means she will know how to dress for success, not have visible tats or excessive piercings, etc. She will, at least in my world, successfully fit into my world.
2. She will have a balance in her life. She will have some drive and ambition, but also remember that she is in a relationship and have the time and energy necessary to be in a successful relationship. Way too many of my friends who have wives/significant others find they are in "crossing in the hallway" relationships in which they share a house but don't really share their lives.
3. No significant drama/baggage. Goes to a lot of topics. The bill collectors aren't calling day and night, she has no family drama with babydaddy(s), etc.
4. Some kind of career interest. I really don't care what it is. Doesn't have to make a lot of money, but does have to do more than sit around the house watching soap operas...laughing as I say that.
5. Overall nice person with a sense of humor, knows what is going on around her (current events, etc.) and can engage in conversation in some way, shape or form.
I could go on. Lots to talk about, but that's a start.

This is all wrong. Someone not successful if they have a lot of debt? You've obviously not me a lot of really successful people.

Well for me:
1, she has a career (not just a job) it shows she's driven
2, she's a team player (don't have the me, myself, and I mentality)
3, She's respectful (this doesn't mean submissive)
4, we share similar values (this covers religion and life philosophies)
5, she's confident in herself and her abilities.

shit happens even to professionals... downsizing, facilities closing... so having stuff isn't the answer... but being able to handle life and not giving up shows character. never give up, keep on doing what has to be done.. take charge...
