Women seem to be very adamant about dating someone her friend or family member once dated and vise versa. Men are not as convicted on this.
With women it doesn't matter how long ago it was too.
But can you REALLY say "you're over" someone if you still care about who they date? And how would that look to your new man if you still have all that emtion invested in an ex?
So why is the "No Dating My Ex" rule more imprtant to women than men?

Wow. What a totally prejudiced question. And I like how you snuck that "convicted" in there when you thought no one was looking....slick.

I don't know why it is like a boundary that shouldn't be crossed.
I'd be interested in knowing why it is, though.

I never said women ONLY and if I did please go back and quote where I said that.
I said men aren't as convicted which means men do feel that way but its not as many or as imp i rtant as it is for women.

I think your observation is correct. I have also noted that women are slightly more likely than men to want to not have an ex come back into their lives through a side door like that.
I have always attributed the slight difference to the fact that women tend to have a better appreciation of the fact that it is likely to lead to friction. Men, especially younger ones, are more likely to close their eyes to the risks, and only find out later how much of a drag it is to have someone you thought you were done with, now sleeping with one of your other friends or relatives.
It's not a "rule," any more than any other bit of dating advice or lore is a "rule." There are no actual "rules," because there's no rule-making group running everything. Yeah, I know lots of people say this or that is a "rule" of dating etiquette, but that's just social slang. People like to pretend something is a "rule," or even an actual Law, just to make it clear that their mind is made up.

The only thing I've ever told any friends of mine is...... if you wanna go after her once I'm done be my guess. If she was any good at all I'd keep her for myself. And I don't care if you're in love with her or just wanna fu€k KEEP HER AWAY FROM ME!
Don't bring her to my house, any affairs I give or when we're hanging out. If I wanted to keep looking her in the face I woulda kept contact on my own. And don't even bring her name up in a conversation either.

Some would say the question is "why would that someone be hurt or even care if its over?"
Women carry that shit for years. I can maybe understand a fresh breakup. But 7-10 years later? And you still worrying about and you're in another committed relation with someone else? Really?
At some point you gotta let go!

Now if I was attracted to one of my friends exes I make ight wanna fu€k her but wouldn't want to date her.
My friends and I had one rule about that. It was..... "Don't ever get emotionally involved with someone one of you boys was with sexually"
Bcuz when a man is with his girl he don't want NONE of his friends knowing what its like to be with her and it'll always cause conflict and mistrust.

Well then. You already knew the answer to your own question after all. The only thing you needed to realize is that lots of people use the word "rule" in place of saying "I am prejudiced in such a way that I wont or will blah-blah."
That, and you seem to think that women feel even more intensely about it that you do.
Maybe the point of real confusion for you is in the word "date." To you, that word means something like "take seriously as a potential mate," and since you don't consider having sex with someone you look down your nose at to be "dating," and you think that women do consider sex to mean you are dating, that there was a disparity between men and women on this.
But it's just differences in word usage.

I don't define dating as anything serious and thats for the record.
But it doesn't seem to matter with woman who follow this how they define it. Some women apply this rule to guys that they NEVER dated but just liked a lot.
And if she made this known to any females she socialise with on a daily bases that man is off limits.

Isn't that the same thing as you said in your OP? I mean, if someone is dating, then they should be able to take their date anywhere without worrying about who is there, right? I mean, if it's over for you, it's over, right? It won't matter if you see them around? Isn't that the point of saying it's OK to date your exes? That the exes don't matter to you one way or the other any more?
But this seems to say something entirely different than that.
However, while I don't care if a friend starts dating an ex of mine, I can see the awkwardness of being in the same places but with different partners. I imagine it would go away in time, though. I mean, what if they get married? Then I'm going to be seeing them a lot because I'm not losing a friendship over it.
I really don't care if someone dates an ex of mine. If they can make it together when we couldn't, good for them. They maybe should have been together from the get go. If I truly love my friend, and I wish the best for an ex, then I want what makes them happy, and if it's each other, great.
Personally, I would think it'd be worse for the ex, cuz wouldn't he be thinking that we're getting together to compare notes on him?
I think that it's only an issue if you're still carrying a torch for someone or still entertain the thought you might get back together. Otherwise, you're indifferent to them and don't care if you see them with someone else.

I think you need to speak on "some" women.
When a woman is over a man, she's over him...no question about it and they will wish him well.
But.....
Listen now.
If a man cheated on his woman..or wife...she drops him and she's dating Someone else.....
Ahhh noooo hell breaks loose then, because...
Why is it your wife or lady wasn't thought of, or your love and jealously didn't take over in the mind when you cheated?
That happens more with men, then with women.

1. I didn't say "some" women bcuz I'm at a point educationally where I know speaking "in general" refers to whats expected of the majority which would suggest its not "ALL" so there's NO NEED to say "some" when its automatically implied.
2. The women you described is the exception to the rule. Its not what happens on the norm which means its less likely to go down like that. I'm talking on the norm baby.

If a woman is with one of my buddies and she has told him it is not going to work and she is not into him anymore and she is interested in me the three of us will sit down and work out any sore feelings.
When its over, it's over.
If she comes with me and then decides he was better for her then she can go back to him. No hard feelings and what she had with me will be something I treasure and no one can take that away from me.
When it's over, it's over.

I'm not twisting anything. I'm quoting your words. You're the one who believes they mean something different than they do. The only difference is that they can date 'em, but they have to keep it from you.
You think that it's disrespectful for your friend to put her in your face again. That's what the "rule" is supposedly about in the first place. Don't date an ex cuz I don't want them anywhere near me again."
But shouldn't you respect your friend, too, and their wishes in who they date? Or is it all one-sided and only about you?

Lost me on that. I don't know any dude that will date a chick after a family member or friend has been with her. That's been the unspoken rule for the longest. Saying men don't have that rule may apply to your circle.

This entire thread just shows how many of you are emotionally damaged through dating someone or having sex with them and then breaking up and having these attitudes that you cannot see the ex, the ex is meaningless, the ex can't date my friends...ugh.
How about approaching dating like you are exploring another person to see if they fit your lifestyle and if it doesn't work well it doesn't work. No harm..you learned you are not right for each other.
Try to be adults going forward!

How about approaching dating like you are exploring another person to see if they fit your lifestyle and if it doesn't work well it doesn't work. No harm..you learned you are not right for each other.
Try to be adults going forward!
yeah it's how the majority think. That's why I quoted that guy to ask later. It seems that most people are concerned with OPP

The adult thing to do is not lust over and pursue a friend or family member ex because its trifling. It's not illegal but damn sure shows you have no respect, morals,or integrity. As man people there is in the world you can find someone else. Plus doing that makes it seem like you were secretly after that person when their relationship was still ongoing.

Pyglram
Well you guys are different where you from.
If my ex wanna get with one of my friends she can but my friend must understand to keep her away from me and we're good. Nothing to talk about.
But if she decide I was better than he was, TOO FU€KING BAD, ain't no coming back to me regardless to WHAT or WHO she did afterwards. Hell No!

Ok I see I need to be specific and list places and situations to be understood. Ok......
My ex and my friend are hanging out, fu€king, in love, seeing each other, etc.
They can go to the movies, parks, harbor place, science center, aquariums, out to eat, go for walks, traveling out of town, visit each others relitives, go to each others houses, spend nights, spend holidays togethers, buy gifts for each other, loan each other money, move in together, borrow each others cars, share bank accounts, put both their vouces on the answering maching, take puctures together to hang on the wall, go grocery shopping, fishing, camping, hiking, bowling, horseback riding, canoeing, to concerts, bars, clubs, flea markets, to foreign countries. Do I need to continue the list really?
None of those things include ME! Now here are the things he can't do with her.....
Bring her to my house under ANY circumstances. For a cook out, football or birthday party, monopoly night or just to drop him off. See that involves me.
Any events I give outside my house like swim parties, park events, etc.
Don't have call my house or cell looking for him or to talk to me about ANYTHING involving him. She can't come to my house looking for him either.
This way everyone can be happy and no one have to feel disrespected. But to bring her to home or ANY event I give I will take it as a personal disrespectful insult.

OK, so yes.
A friend can't date your ex if he's gonna bring her around you.
That's your rule. The no dating my ex around me is your strong and ironclad rule which is, apparently, very important to you. So the rule is not, as you claim, more important to women, it is more important to you. They can date, just don't rub your face in it.
Which to me is ridiculous. If I'm done with him, I'm done with him, and anyone can date him. If he makes my friend happy, I'm happy, and I will not lose a friendship over some perceived "slight" to me. I'm not king of everything and everything and everyone does not have to kowtow to me so that I can maintain my royalty and worry about people "disrespecting" me and my edicts. Because not everything is about me.
Much as I might want it to be, of course.

Well I can see your stance on it. You wouldn't date an ex of a friend or family member. But you don't care if they go after your ex, right?

No.....
So why is the "No Dating My Ex" rule more imprtant to women than men?
^^^^^^^
This is not the norm for women.....
But what I stated is the norm.....
Once women are done....they're done....cause women know their worth especially black women.
Let that woman that knows her worth leave that man....he will have the problem.....although he cheated or just was plane dumb.....
The man will have the problem because he knew he had a good woman.

Its nice to know someone can rise above the typicalism. If you found out that your best friend was seding your ex it wouldn't matter?
What if she never old you and they hooked up a couple weeks after yall broke and you found out through a mutual friend of you both?

You can be over someone, but each time you see them you still feel the pain they gave you. It happened to me. I don't want to date my Ex. anymore, but I don't want to see him every time I went to go see my friend. I spent less and less time with my friend, tell we didn't see each other at all. Finely she asked me why,I told her. They were happy together, but I just couldn't be around him.

Baby I totally understand. Its not more so pain for me than it is be reminded of the bullshit.
But females wilk sometimes do little petty shit to try and sabotage your next relation.
They'll even go as far as making it seem like she's still sleeping with him jyst to piss off his new girl.
But if I NEVER allow her a** back within my circle by dating my friend, I won't have to worry about it. Or her trhing to get back or break up my friendship with my boy with lies and shit.
Good bye b*tch! Thats how I feel about it.

It wouldn't matter...
Because I still say the same thing...
Most women are done when done.....
It doesn't matter if my friend, family member dates a ex of mine.

A true friend would not. It's not about rules, it's about loyalty.

What loyalty? If she was sleeping with him behind your back while yall were together, that I understand. Or if she was trying to brake yall up so she can have him I'd understand.
But what is disloyal about it?
