I had a coffee date last night. I can't say I was attracted to him. He was my size and looked really old. He had really bad teeth. He said I passed his coffee test. I asked what the coffee test was. He said if I were over weight and drove a junky car he would not want to see me again. I am thinking he is pretty shallow to have shared that with me.

yeah he probably had yucky brown teeth and bags under his eyes. I dated one that looked like that and looking back I wonder what the heck I was thinking. He was decent enough as far as his personality and he had a job for many years so I gave him a try. ew.

You can call anyone shallow for simply knowing what they like or want. I don't care for that particular label for that reason. Everyone is equally "shallow," if you realize that everyone has likes and dislikes, and that we don't get to choose what to like, only to discover what it is.

I've run across people who were nominally fabulous: had tons of money, good jobs, knew how to dress well and so forth, but who were the opposite of attractive, because they were soul sucking fiends underneath it all.

That guy was just someone who probably didn't realize how few women there are in the world who will pass his tests, and also find him attractive in turn. Or maybe he does, but tries anyway, because not trying would result in even lower chances of finding anyone.

It's an interesting bit of human behavior that most people have a sort of Disney cartoon idea of how attraction is supposed to work, running in the background of their minds. They tend to assume like will link up with like. I noticed when I was a kid, that in Fantasia, when all the Centaurs were finding their mates, that there was a racist-like message shown: the pink ones linked with other pink ones, the blue ones found other blues, and so on. Humans tend to assume that hot people will fall for other hot people, and that not-hot people will fall for other not-hot people (or at least be polite enough not to try to hit on the hot people), but that juuuust aint the way people ever have been.

My guess was that you blew him out of the saddle. But rude cracks about people in general are uncalled for. He apparently does not know the definition of the word- Tactful.

He is shallow?

Did you not start this thread by talking about his teeth and how he looked old?

So who passed and who failed the coffee test?!

i consider myself an introvert but sometimes imay laugh out loudly. i should have told myself this accomplished social worker was the quiet type, because she immediately chestized me when over something funny, i burst out loud in laughter. it was then i realize she and i were miles apart. but you see, the thing is that i couldn't keep up with a constant silly sally, even though i could be considered having that kind of personality too. hmm it's hard analyzing yourself. in fact you need to have yourself reflected via another to know who you are. at least i kinow i am pretty old and have dentures and just had to get a leaky anti-freeze fixed. funny that one has to sacrifice some interests some habits to get along.

Yes I noticed that too:

Old farts who expect you to be a Lolita...
Teddybears who expect you to be a model...
Unemployed who expect you to be well off...
Bus riders who expect you to drive a nice car...

...so riduculous

The coffee dates are getting worse. I had a guy ask me to coffee Saturday and then try to switch it to walking around Bass Pro Shop. I blocked his cell phone and have not talked to him since.

I had a coffee date on Sunday and he got there first and he already had a coffee. He did not offer me anything but I didn't expect him to. He did hire me to list and sell his house so I am happy about that.

I have given up on finding a relationship, I will go to my grave an old maid but I don't care.

Life goes on and I've learned to be happy by myself. When my thinking tries to go into a negative mode I pull myself back up with an attitude of gradittude.

I've leaned to live life one day at a time.

I know what you mean, I feel the same way!
I am happy and engaged in my life, and so what it comes to me is a gift.

When, in life you start to think this way, it is like a liberation!

You don't need to search for anything, you are in peace.

This is the better mental state a human can reach, and enjoy life!
