When dating are you looking for a companion or a life partner?

Recently I've noticed a lot of guys are looking for companionship, but I want more than a companion. I feel like I can have a good pet who makes a good companion. I want a life partner. What do you think? Is there a difference? I somewhat agree with best answer found but if i was much yoinger i might not but we're getting older by the day..

Below was the best answer found researching this....do you agree or not agree..if you disagree add your reason why you do and your definitions of companionship vs a relationship..??? Thanks i hope this wakes up the thought process...

Best Answer:  If I'm going to date someone its not for companionship, it for life partner/marriage/love. Of course I wouldn't rush into marriage because it takes years to find out if the relationship will work. I've never been in a relationship before and only fell for one girl and that happened just recently. She was defiantly afraid of commitment and had a very low self esteem and insecurity issues. I went on two dates with her, one date lasted the entire day but nothing happened out of it. I met her online and talked to her months before we met in person. When I first started talking to her she was funny, witty, seemed like a happy person that I loved to be around her. When I started getting close to her, her low self esteem and low self-worth showed and how deep down she's really depressed, lonely and confused. She had a boyfriend when I started talking to her but if you ask me it was just a companionship thing and she didn't want to live alone. So she left him while talking to me because she was defiantly curious if it'd work out between us. I really did like her, but it seems she had too low of a self esteem for a real relationship. I tried to help her with her self esteem issues, she'd just get angry and said it makes her sad talking about it. I didn't care about her low self esteem because I knew the potential she had if she'd rise above her past and think better of herself. I suffer from similar issues too and I was able to relate. We just handled them differently. I have a low self esteem, low confidence, and insecurity issues but I'm shy she wasn't. I never really tried dating because I figured if it happens it happens, well know that I developed feelings for someone else I'm starting to find that I'm getting too disparate to get those feelings back and that's never a good thing. I don't want to get hurt again nor do I want to hurt anyone so right now I think I just need friendship, someone to talk to. Girls always seem more understanding of this sort of thing and tend to give better advice, I say that because there answers are usually more mature/thoughtful and respectful on this type of matter.

And they lived happily ever after, wallowing in their mutual misery.

A good relationship is with a great companion isn't it?

I guess I see one turning into the other if you are lucky enough and maybe love will come someday ..... I used to believe in love not so much anymore.... I Believe but I believe if we wait for this so called true love .... we will most likely die alone jmo

Just want to make this point the best answer was picked by the posters and not my opinion which may be confusing esp since i posted it via a smartphone but i agreed and disagreed with some of that best answer..tater good point but as a guy some may be compared worse then the current occupant for a companion like a cat, or a dog or both...pets never get the boot because they're there longer and loyal or remain after a relationship ends...its like a guy sayin lose your girlfriends...nope easier to get rid of the guy or visa versa..I'll sit back and view posts...thanks tater

I have seen people live with someone as a FWB but never really having the deep connection, that loving bond, that comes with closeness.
A friend of mine met a man like this. He lived with another woman for ten years, cared about her as a friend but never took it beyond that. They went to family gatherings, ate together, etc. He never dreamed about marrying or staying with her for the rest of her life. When he met and started dating my friend, he left the other woman and never looked back. He married my friend and raised a family. She was jealous and upset at first but she knew it was over and he never loved her that way.

I hear ya zoe...the only time i took a woman to anything somewhat important i was not dating was to a wedding because the best part of attending a wedding is to dance or sit on your butt simply because people attend in pairs...

I just had a similar conversation recently with someone...partnership vs relationship...

Now your asking companionship vs relationship...

Is there a difference between the two?

While thinking about these two options...and looking back on the few relationships I've had in the past...I've learned a lot...there is nothing wrong with finding good companionship....and being happy with that...until the real thing comes along...

Never make someone a priority if your only an option to them....I live by this daily now...
