The Disney comic books my Dad brought home on Friday night. There were always ten of them!
It only cost him a dollar.I wish I had them now! They disappeared a few at a time .
We had a wood heating stove. You can guess where they went.

This morning, as I was watering my tomatoes (they put out until the first heavy frost), I noticed that there were numerous butterflies on the plants. Farm chemicals have pretty much killed off all the butterflies here. Happy sight...

My parents lived through the depression. They NEVER threw anything out and saved EVERYTHING! We had a LARGE box full of old shoes in the basement.

My daughter, while visiting Gramma, found my old tattered and torn red Ked high top sneakers and wore them to high school...

GEEZ I'm not that old. I don't think I was in a car with FM til the 70s. As I understand it in the 40s and 50s FM was pretty much for classical music at least around here.

Neighbor had one of those! You could tell the age by looking at the FM dial. I understand that FM used a different frenquency in the 30s than they did after the war when it was changed to what it is today. I think hers was a 30s model.

Ever wonder why people used to never set down. Just look at the old rockers and chairs then compare it to the recliners of today. Man if we'd empty our house and get those old seats back in, we'd stay on our feet also.

My mom cleaning out the ashes in the wood stove. It got really hot. If you stood
by it your front would be warm. If you turned your backside would be warm. Never
both sides warm at once. My brother and I used to prop our feet up on the sides of the stove trying to stay warm. There were wicker chairs on both sides of the stove.
Brrrrrrrr!

Having the boy behind me yank on my pigtails (3rd grade), then getting my hindend paddled after I took care of that during recess. Funny the teacher caught me but never caught him when he was yanking me bald. The paddling was worth it.

When I was a little girl between the ages of 6 and 10 I got 50 cents allowance. This took me to the Saturday matinee, bought me a bag of popcorn, to the Sweetshop for a cherry coke then to the drugstore for a brand new comic book..........usually "Sheena of the Jungle". Now I had a big maple tree I could hang out in when I was Sheena but I saw Roy Rogers every Saturday at the matinee and I desperately needed a gun to be a good cowgirl.

One day at the drugstore over in the candy section I spotted a gun! It was on the small side and didn't really look like a cowboy gun but still.........So I deserted Sheena and bought the Licorice gun instead. I was ever so excited. At last I could kill the outlaws chasing me and Roy.

I had the gun a few days. It got rather sticky and grubby and kind of limp too. Then I tasted it. I only took a little nibble off the barrel where it wouldn't be missed. Then I took a little nibble off the grip. By the end of the day there was no more gun left and not one outlaw shot. I never bought another..............sigh

A friend told me that when he was a little boy his dad was in WWII. Came home to find wife pregnant with another mans child. Divorce and father awarded custody of a 3 year old boy. What to do? Take him home to grandmother because the father was over whelmed and knew zilch about raising a child. Grandmother became sick at childs age of around 7 years so father again had responsibility but still no experience. Took child to a boarding school where child was lonely and wanted the other kids to see that he got letters and mail also. SO, child started ordering stuff from magazines such as insurance posters that claimed "no salesman will visit". Then, saw an ad for a Swinn Bicycle and for only a dime. Ordered the bicycle and got a cracker jack prize of a piece of cardboard with a strip on it and instructions to run a dime over the strip to make a noise. It said Swinn.

I laughed when he told me the story but then realized the hurt of a child being fooled was still very much present. If there was a time that I could redo it would be to take back that laugh. Man is now 72 and still carries the hurt of that child.
