Something I wrote 150 years ago when I was a mere frog. Based on a true story of two kittens found orphaned in some hay trucked clear cross state. I catdopted them at six weeks...


COUNTRY KITTIES by FRUGAL T FROG

Momma kitty had two kittens and isn't that just dandy,
both were white and fluffy so she named them Cotton Candi.
They looked a lot alike, you see, with little pink kitty noses,
both had pretty blue kitty eyes and tiny pink kitty toeses.
Born on a Monday mornin' in the nice warm country sun,
these two little country kitties were lookin' for some fun.
Momma said, "Oh no you don't, you babies must stay home,
you country kitties are far too young to leave me and go roam".
Of course these country kitties, thought that they knew better,
"We're off to see the world mom, we'll send you a letter.
You have no need to worry 'cause we won't forget our roots,
we're puttin' on our cowgirl hats and our cowgirl boots.
We heard Mr. Jones the farmer say he's headed for Santa Fe,
we thought we'd hitch a ride with him 'cause he's goin' our way".
So they hopped up on that BIG red truck on that very same day,
and it wasn't very long at all they fell fast asleep in the hay.
Snuggled up close together as country kitties will do,
dreamin' of all the things out there that they were gonna do.
They woke up a long time later, and took a look around,
to greet this BIG new world, and jumped down to the ground.
They gathered up all their kitty things, and took each other's hand,
to start a new adventure in that soft warm Santa Fe sand.
"Santa Fe looks just like home", Candi said to her sister Cotton,
so they stopped to ask someone near by how far they'd really gotten.
"You silly kitties you're still at home", they heard their momma say,
"momma kitties watch their babies so they will not go astray.
You really didn't go anywhere, mommas can't let their babies roam,
it was only in your dreams, you see, that you went away from home.
Dreams are best and always safe for adventures you want to take,
and I'll always be there to watch over you, and while you are awake".
The kitties agreed, dreams were best, if they wanted to go and roam,
because no matter what they thought, there's really no place like home.
