My most awkward first date was one that I met a Lady on line and went out for drinks.. When We went back to her place she told me that she was a post op . I have to say I was floored as she was very pretty

Isn't that better than pre-op?

Unlike professional comedians and politicians doing an apology tour, I don't find it to be all that helpful to recall and recite the embarrassing bad mistakes I've made.

@Test, It may not necessarily be about something embarrassing.

I think for me the most awkward moments would be when you go out with person/meet and you just don't click. The conversation just does not seem to flow easily.

That is when you realize that the date when not develop into a relationship.

I can say I've seem to have decent first dates, may not turn into a second date, but that's ok. Mostly nice decent guys just not my style or didn't float my boat.

I did have a guy lie about his age, I had a feeling he was lying and confronted him.
he was 54 not 45.

Okay, I have some not-so -painful to recall ones.

Had a first (and last) date where the girl got trashed within a half hour of reaching the dance bar. I don't even remember now what she looked like, I was so embarrassed. I tried to make the best of things and humor her for about an hour, then took her back to her place and saw her to her door. Couldn't think of anything else to do.

Had one where I realized after we were about to become intimate, that my lust had led me to delude myself that we were intellectually compatible, when it was really nothing but lust on my part. I can't remember what I did or said to get away, but I tried to be nice about it. Also very embarrassing. That was early on, when I was still figuring out what real attraction needed to consist of.

With Online stuff, I've come to expect significant differences between expectations and first-meet appearances. It's hard for anyone to post really good AND up to date pics of themselves, unless they are members of the "Incessant Selfie Club of America."

Speak for yourself @Purple. Most of the time I pretty well can talk to folks. Once in a while you don't click, not happen to me to often to the point of being awkward.

What is awkward for me is when you have to carry the conversation. I hate that. Men that just sit there and shake their head every so often. grrr! Give me a man anyday that has some input to the conversation!

I can appreciate purplerider's point. First meets of any kind, tend to be at least somewhat awkward feeling.

After all, we're trying to act as though we're friends already, because (hopefully) we're attracted, but at the same time we're feeling each other out (not "up" until later, hopefully), and there's no way to do that without awkwardness, at least for honest people.

But I thought from the top, that what the OP really was after, were those cases where we really just wanted to get the hell out of there for whatever reason. The extremely awkward ones, not just the "new meet" awkwardness.

Been there, done that, don't wanna go there again. The tough part, when you're on a one sided conversation, is breaking it off. You know that you'll have to be the one to end the mess. I don't know about you, But I hate cutting it off. Rather makes me feel like the bad guy, but I know it's for the best.

The only time I have had first meets that were really awkward was when he had clearly been misleading on his profile. He is far older than stated, heavier, shorter (and I am 5'2" so height isn't a big deal but lying is), not actually single, etc. I have shown up to meets before and not been able to recognize the man. That is never a good sign.

Same here. I think it is because I don't really have an expectation of a "love match" or whatever. Now... if we decide to have a second date - meaning that we both actually like one another - I may get a bit nervous for that one. Nothing over the top though. Just more thought goes into preparation.

I smile a lot if my date is very attractive and tend to stare at his eyes.

Doing this^ makes my dates feel awkward in a good way.

Sometimes I have a huge fear of kissing a fellow for the first time. Especially, if I'm really digging him and he turns out to be a really shitty kisser-- then, I feel really awkward.
