If christianity is so well founded and protected by god then why are christians so threatened by atheism and agnosticism?

Studies on the demographics of atheism have concluded that self-identified atheists comprise anywhere from 2% to 8% of the world's population, whereas irreligious individuals represent a further 10% to 20%.[1][2][3] Several comprehensive global polls on the subject have been conducted by Gallup International: their 2012 poll found that 13% of respondents were "convinced atheists" and their 2015 poll indicated that 11% were "convinced atheists".
So roughly only 20% of the population are professed atheists or agnostics. What makes them so dangerous to the majority? Why are christians so scared of atheism?

Christians are deathly afraid of anything that threatens their belief system.
I asked Tnt (Steve) once to read 35 pages in The Urantia Book and he never could do it. So I asked him why, and this is what he said:
"I am fearful that the source of the book of Urantia is not of the true God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the 12 Tribes of Jacob but the false god."
Tnt is very fearful that his entire world might fall apart if someone else is right and he is wrong in his beliefs. And really, all of the closed minded Christians suffer from this same maladay, fear of having their belief system altered.
All of Steve's posts contain assumption after assumption, and it's hard to deal with them because you have to correct them all. Like he will say, "We can't criticize God, and we must obey God's laws, etc." And the built in ASSmption is that the bible is "God's Word." He builds that assumption into every post, multiple times. If that assumption isn't true, he doesn't want to know about it, it would destroy all the house of cards beliefs that he has nurtured probably for decades.
I suggested to Josiemae that she get a copy of The Urantia Book and for some reason wayn49 chimed in with, "i think i will stick with the bible."
Well sure, why not? Why not just play it safe and stick with "See Spot Run." It was good enough when we were 5 years old, so why not just stick with it?
Perhaps if we just read and re-read See Spot Run over and over and over for years and years, we can glean more truth out of it. That's the way the bible people think.

Both communism as practiced by 20th century regimes and Christianity as practiced by the Catholic and Protestant churches over millennia were totalitarian ideologies intolerant of those who believed differently. This at least partly explains why their adherents have conducted historic mass killings of non-conforming persons. Another part of the explanation lies in human nature, and how people can be readily manipulated by powerful leaders to demonize, dehumanize and persecute out-groups. Atheism may be a component of certain secular political ideologies, but it isn't an ideology in itself with a negative policy of mistreating Christians or theists in general. Atheism is simply a disbelief in and rejection of God/s.

I have to partially disagree because lowel doesn't think he's lying. He isn't allowed to think or question on his own, he's only allowed to believe what they ( the vatican & priests) tell him.

What a lot of people don't understand about medieval heretics is that they were often the equivalent to today's terrorists--they would do things like poisoning Catholics' wells, burning Catholics' crops, burning down Catholic churches, etc. In about the year 1641 French Huguenots rounded up 4000 Catholic priests and murdered them. In a lot of ways the Inquisition was a self defense thing.
The Inquisition was never a mass murder thing, a la tentieth century Naziism and Communism.

Antisemitism has many parents. Scholars of ancient civilizations have revealed the presence of a cultural antipathy towards Jews and their religion in Greco-Roman society. There is little question that some of the early Gentile converts to Christianity shared in this cultural bias. As Gentiles they also were not well acquainted with the internal life of the Jewish community at the time of Jesus. Hence they read many of the New Testament texts as condemnations of Judaism as such rather than internal quarrels which were commonplace within the Jewish community of the period.
Competition for converts and other factors led to an intensification of Jewish-Christian conflict towards the end of the first century even though there is evidence of continued Jewish-Christian interaction, including Christian participation in Sabbath worship, in some areas well beyond that. These conflicts had a negative impact on the writers of certain parts of the New Testament especially the author of the gospel of John which was compiled about this time. In several places John’s gospel associates “the Jews” with darkness and with the devil. This laid the groundwork for centuries of Christian characterization of Jews as agents of the devil, a characterization which found its way into medieval popular religion and eventually into passion plays.
In the second century and beyond, many of the principal Fathers of the Church began to write of Jews as a “rejected people” who were doomed to a life of marginality and misery. Jews were to wander the world as a “despised people.” This image persisted in Christian preaching, art and popular teaching for centuries to come. In certain countries it often led to civil and political discrimination against Jews and in some instances to physical attacks on Jews which resulted in death. While some Popes, bishops and Christian princes stepped up to protect Jews, they were clearly a minority. It was only in the mid-twentieth century that the Catholic Church and many Protestant denominations issued major statements repudiating this anti-Judaic theology and began a process of constructive Christian-Jewish interaction.
When the Nazis came on the scene in Germany they were able to draw upon the legacy of Christian anti-Judaism even though biologically-based antisemitism went well beyond classical Christian anti-Judaism by arguing for the annihilation of the Jews rather than only for their misery and marginality. Christian antisemitism provided an indispensable seedbed for the success of Nazism on the popular level. It led some Christians to embrace the Nazi ideology and many others to stand on the sidelines as masses of Jews were exterminated.
