This week I read where a general stated that Bergdahl should receive no imprisonment for desertion and falling into the hands of the Taliban. Keep in mind our Defense Department traded 5 terrorists to get him released! Others were put in great danger searching for him.He claims he left his post to go to another to report incompetence by his superiors! Incompetence you a**hole? You went outside the wire unarmed and right into the hands of the enemy! Do you agree he should face no imprisonment or further repercussions for his desertion?

From what I read, the guy sent his shit home, left his weapon on his bunk, and walked away in civvies. This from a guy in his platoon. To me, that's desertion.

jr I dont know how much information we need on this one...we have evidence! He left his base andd weapon and wearing civvies walked into the hands of the Taliban. None of that is in dispute.

What bother's me about this case is in the court of public opinion, people are judging Bergdahl according to their opinion of Obama. Don't like Obama? Bergdahl should be shot for desertion. Think Obama is awesome? Bergdahl is a confused, disillusioned soldier, and should be let off the hook.
Not knowing what the court knows, I don't have a solid opinion, although I'm not a big fan of "Lock him up and throw away the key" mentality. But either way, I hate seeing how this guy has been reduced to a pawn in presidential politics.

Joe hes not a pawn.Hes a deserter! If you take your uniform off and walk into enemy hands you are a deserter. Obama isnt runing.This has nothing to do with politics-presidential or other wise brother, he deserted and put others at risk!

Obama made a huge mistake swapping 5 Taliban for this piece of dog shit. Im a Democrat and I was surprised how many folks thought it was a good deal to "get our soldier" back....when he took off his uniform in a combat zone in my view he no longer was a soldier JMHO

I agree. The media does what it does, and seldom gets it right And never apologize for their screw ups.
I watched a Frontline program on this story on PBS, and apparently he walked into a Village and asked where he could find the Taliban. The villager's were happy to help, they turned him over to the Taliban, and the Taliban treated him like a spy..
Also 2 of the 5 Taliban that were"Traded" have attempted to go back to the Taliban, they have been arrested.
The court will decide this man's fate, and that will be that.(Actually I see a Movie in the works)
As Far as the rest of us, hmmmm there is an Old Chinese saying. "Opinion's are like Buffalo Farts, every Buffalo, has their Own..ok may be not Chinese...

it's not about who f**ked up, vw. it's about realizing that pandering for votes is what any elected person in this country has to do to get elected but it goes beyond that. 'we the people' who wrote the constitution that assigns duties to the president and every government official are who make up the voters that get pandered to. once we elect them we expect them to come through with their pandering as they promised. that's what so few voters get. hell, most never did get it even in the late eighteenth century and going on three hundred years later are still looking for politicians to blame for their miserable lives and it happens because one party or the other has convinced them that it's so. if you affiliate with a political party get the f**k out and lets us 'we the people' take our country back.

jr I think "we the people:" is a worn out cliche. Ive come to a place in life where I watch different political groups try to claim it as their own and its become trivialized and divisive. I think its time for us to think for ourselves and discount the propaganda we are fed by both parties and recognize only Americans can save America, not some candidate or talking head on cable long on promises!If we do that "we the people"has meaning again
