I love quail hunting around here but the numbers have been low too. It does look better this year and I think I will go. I use 20gauge on quail, 12 on pheasant, we use to use 16gauge for either quail or pheasant but shells are expensive and hard to find.

When I was growing up I fed our family with quail,rabbits, and squirrel. We still have plenty of squirrel but no quail and very few rabbit. The red ants aka(fire ants) and the wild house cats along with the Chang in farming habits made the quail a thing of the past in north west Florida when I was growing up I never even saw a deer until I was 20+ in this area and in the last 15 years the deer population has exploded.I had to put up a 10 ft fence around my five ac garden just to keep the deer out

stargazzer Creighton, NE 68, joined Feb. 2007	Pheasant numbers got very low around me ten years ago so I have ben raising pheasants & quail the last 7 years and placing groups of 10 to 30 around my county also put land in the government Idle acker program and sometimes would put over 100 their mostly I would put out hens, it has made a big difference and hunting is back again. One person can make a bigger differace than any of the State programs But they jump in and take the credit all tolled I put out over 1800 hens & 400 roosters & a 1000 quail.

I am guessing that anyone with enough land to support them strictly controls access to it. The state stocks them for hunting here at some local public hunting areas, I am guessing that most don't survive hunting season. No pheasant or quail? So they legalized dove hunting! They should have just allowed hunting on Cleveland's public square for pigeons.
