Or perhaps just being practical.

Wouldn't #3 and #6 be the same thing?

I do know some who fit with number 3 so I'll go with that.

#4, kind of...not super-important to me.

I have noticed that "un-secure" folks tend to be pretty stressed & probably aren't much fun to date.

It can be any one of those things you listed.

What people should be concerned with are if the feelings are real and if you get along and have what it takes to make a real go of things.

but, its mostly women concerned about money and things not associated with real feelings.

Not exactly. The people referenced to in #6 may not care themselves about a person's class, but worry excessively about the opinions of friends and family who are probably class-conscious snobs.

Mine would be 4. Financial security is important to me, I save and safe gaurd my credit rating. I couldn't date someone that was too frivolous with money, it would be a clash. If its not a deal, on sale, or have a coupon good luck getting me to buy it.

There's a range of reasons for it. I tend to avoid class conscious types. They're for the most part posers, trying to impress not with who they are but with what they have. The priority is the lifestyle. Your worth to them is what's in your wallet. Period.

Financial responsibility is my priority. Whether you make $25K a year or $250K a year, if you spend twice that much and are buried under a mountain of debt, I'll pass.

Any of the above or none of the above. Whatever their motivation, why would it matter to anyone else?

Why is desiring financial security/responsibility so often treated like a bad thing. It's not like it means being wealthy...I know financial irresponsibility is a turn off but financial security can actually vary by circumstance.

OP, I just don't get your fascination with judging people based on these sweeping statements.

I'd be looking for a compatibility factor myself. Looking for someone who has the discipline in their life to sacrifice for the long term (house paid for, credit cards paid off monthly, savings, etc.) rather than someone who lives their life from paycheck to paycheck, paying rent to a landlord, creditors dunning them, always having to have the newest "thing" whether it is shoes, clothes, vehicles, etc. and damn the consequences.

This would also assume a higher degree of intelligence by such behavior.

I'm not judging people or making sweeping statements. I'm merely questioning ideas, mindsets, trends, etc. within the dating world. After all this is a dating discussion forum, is it not?

A marriage should be a like a business partnership? Do you really want a partner that does not contribute much to the overall goal? yet expects to reap full benefits of your efforts?

Not necessarily. People looking to be supported want their needs to be met. A golddigger wants more than that, and would possibly take his or her victim to the cleaners.

Indeed!!

Thinking about the future is very important. My situation now, if I wasn't a planner I'd be in financial trouble. I also read, that if one doesn't start planning for retirement at age 24, there is a high probability they will live at or below poverty line in retirement. I'm going to do everything necessary to not burden my child with my debt.

I'm just looking for someone that I get along with long term.

Your op is asking people to evaluate why other people do what they do. That's an entirely different premise than simply asking people how important is and for what reason they value "financial security".

What you are doing, as you generally do with all of your threads, is attempting to pigeon-hole people into categories. I just don't understand your fascination with that. Let people be who they are and speak for themselves.

Other people's thoughts don't concern me unless it's the one im actually dating.

They won't be handling my money and I couldn't care less how they handle theirs.

Some people don't give a shit about money. I am one of those people. .so I certainly wouldn't let it have any bearing on the success of a relationship.

Well everyone has something their fixated on. People like to focus on the problem areas.

If they're financially compatible then there's no sex. If there's enough sex then there's no chemistry. If there's chemistry then there's no financially compatibility. Cycle of wanting problems.

Pink-

Having paid off your home in retirement will be a very big deal. You will then at least have money for groceries and other necessities.

Not having paid off your home and having your entire social security check going to a landlord or a mortgage is an even bigger deal. Think Wal-Mart greeter in your 70's.

You are on the right track, darlin'!

I caught my ex cheating when my kids were 3, 4 and 5 and I had to pay child support until they were all 18 to 21 years of age. I did HVAC work and worked 60 hour weeks in 100 degree temperatures. I had my kids every weekend while having to be "on call" having to call my parents in more than once to babysit while I had to go fix someone's broken furnace with their rarely cleaned cat litter box located right next to their furnace.

Through this all I have managed to pay off my mortgage, add an addition to my home and actually save a little money.

I earned what I have.

really? how much difference exactly? considering what one person might consider " too much", another will consider "just right" or "not enough".

so how much is TOO much emphasis?

I don't care what other peoples motivations are. I just care that my partner and I have similar views on responsibility.

I hope, Stl. My house will be paid off when I'm 50. Depending on my relationship situation, I'll then down size sell my house at a profit, save and invest that. I could sell now for a hefty profit. I bought way under market value and right now its a sellers market.

I discovered that living in a mansion on the hill was not what I really needed.

I discovered that 100K annual was never enough back then. At one time, I had everything I could possibly want and more, and it did not make me happy.

All that did was attract the wrong kind of women to me, and that never made me happy in the end.

Thank God, I don't have any of that anymore!

I've never felt this kind of freedom and I've never felt any more fortunate than I do right now!

I'm just an ordinary guy now, and I'm glad that I had a change in direction.

Your Social Security income is going to be based on working years and income during them.

When you work overtime and get paid time and a half for it? You and the company paying into it for you are paying in 1 1/2 times the normal amount for the overtime hours.

20x6.2% v 30x6.2% You contribute more? You get more?

People think I'm too fixated, compared to most I admit I am. I don't need the latest and greatest phone, TV etc, or a new car every few years. I'll drive my 05 till it blows up . I have no loyalty when it comes to insurance and things like that. Either work with me or I'll switch.

Yes, maybe so! But, if you find yourself with someone trying to keep up with the Kardashians, I'm not so sure that's bringing yourself up. It wasn't for me, I found it was only bringing myself down!

I just try to keep up with the Real McCoys now, and I'm happy!

Social security is not a retirement plan

No, I'll assure you it's not enough.

And, for me, the stock market and 401k proved to be not the way to go either since I lost most of it overnight in the week following 9/11.

Thank my lucky stars, I made some rather unorthodox investments that now insure my survival to add to my SS! I'm good!

SS isn't a plan. That thing they send periodically says at retirement age I'll get 2400 a month. If I become disabled before that it drops a lot. I could live on that, but don't want to. Working my whole life I'd like to enjoy retirement a little.

Agreed, but look at the last recession? One of the first things most companies seemed to cut was matching 401k contributions?

What happens if you go to retire and the stock in your 401k program crashes? Your income from it does also?

It's a hedge against poor planning?

With the scarcity of defined benefit pension plans? Yes!

Now what might that do to people's 401k plans that are planning on retiring soon?

As I am certainly not a model to follow, I have learned a few things the hard way.

I feel confident in giving younger people a couple of tips.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Don't depend on anyone other than yourself. and try to build on something that will come back to you in the form of unlimited residual income.

And there are many ways to do that!

Ours is defined benefit retirement
Nonetheless. .they gamble with the money .

I believe the law recently stated it must be 90% funded..we were at 110% as of the last contract negotiations.

Some greaseball shit
