Silly, Thanks for birthday note but it was just another day for me to be blessed to enter another year. Are you talking about 500 laps in a blender for this coming Saturday night? The noise is deafening coming out of that bowl with the track at the bottom of it and there is not a bad seat anywhere. It's my favorite race of the year PERIOD!

I'm losing interest fast in NASCAR with college football, the NFL, and the MLB playoffs coming to a theater near us soon.

well I hope that I don't miss todays race at Darlinton. NASCAR almost pulled the heart
out of the southern base when they took this date away several years ago.

CONGRATULATIONS MR. 7 TIME!

It takes both outstanding talent and luck to accomplish what Jimmie Johnson accomplished yesterday at Homestead, Florida as he became the third person in NASCAR history to win seven championships tying Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt. Many think, including me, that Jimmie will go down in history as the best ever simply because the competition in today's NASCAR is so much better today than it was yesterday.

What do you think Silly?

He got a huge break with that crash with just 10 laps remaining. If it had gone into overtime, would he have run out of fuel? But hey that is what champions do. They take
full advantage of the breaks and have a great team supporting staff.
So we have 2 super team owners Gibbs vs. Hendrick.

Jimmie absolutely got a huge break with 10 laps remaining because he was the worst of the final four at that time. That's what I meant by LUCK!

The competition in today's NASCAR is so equal among the best drivers that I can't see any current driver coming even close to winning 7 championships again before they retire. Perhaps when you and I are long gone there will be another Jimmie Johnson since records are made to be broken. By the way, I'm not a Jimmie Johnson fan but I appreciate seeing greatness when it happens. Jeff Gordon was my favorite driver and now I don't really have a favorite driver.

@ Silly,

So far the media is being very quiet about the reason for the sudden retirement of Carl Edwards effective immediately from NASCAR so what are you hearing or reading?

All I know is that Carl is in the prime time of his career and probably more physically fit than any other driver. He lives a very personal life off the race track and participates very little in social media. Since his wife is a doctor maybe she is concerned about concussions that might come Carl's way but that's just a guess.

Hate to see Cousin Carl go. JGR is my favorite team in NASCAR. But to you think their may have been some internal conflicts with the team?

well this is the 2nd time that the Championship was in his grasp only to be pulled away by fate! Edwards was very gracious after his wreck at Homestead.
He is 37 and maybe he doesn't wish to risk getting killed behind the wheel.
I heard a story about a driver who heard a voice in his head to retire. He pulled into the pits during a race and retired on the spot!

I remember when the great Freddie Lorenzen retired from NASCAR after a short career. He simply said the speeds on the tracks were getting too high for him.

I'm surprised that the newlywed Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is currently in the starting lineup for the next Daytona 500 after all that has happened to him.

Race drivers are a different breed and I'm sure we will get all of the details on why Carl Edwards decided to hang it up so suddenly in time.

Looking forward, Edwards replacement-Daniel Suarez is a dang good driver. I really don't see him winning any races this year. Although he and Erik Jones have to be favorites for Rookie of the year. And both have a great future ahead of them.

New point system in NASCAR. Not sure how it will work. But I'm ready for some racing!

OP I suggest that you start a new thread. But I will be honest. not too many people here
that even care to comment about NASCAR. I prefer the NHRA.

honestly, for me nascar has gotten to much like the wwe. its just a money making staged event with the participants pretty well knowing the winner ahead of time. and if that guy dont win enough, they'll simply change the rulz to help him, smh. jmo tho

Tater, Unfortunately I've got to agree with you because there was a time that I was one of the biggest NASCAR fans on the planet. I'm talking about a time when there was no power steering in the race cars, no cool suits for the drivers to wear, 150 degrees inside the race car, not changing the rules 10 times during the same season to favor one car manufacturer over another one, when points mattered rather than these stupid chase rules that have been changed multiple times, and the list goes on and on.

I really miss real racing with the Allisons, the Yarboroughs, the Pettys, the Bakers, Freddie, Fireball, and many more of the real men who use to race on the circuit back in the day.

Hendrick has the front row!
Chase Elliott wins the pole again and Dale Earnhardt jr. starts 2nd.
