Everyone keep my son in your prayers. He found out yesterday that he has an enlarged liver. He will go through a lot more testing the first of the year.

Local news yesterday was terrible. On December 18th a local 78 year old man who had been diagnosed with dementia went to church, came home left the church flyer on the kitchen island, then made a phone call. Then went missing. He left the house without his cell phone (it was plugged up to the charger, a space heater was going full blast, and he simply vanished. He had a fairly new Toyota car and looks like he just drove off. The sons were working with their father, and trying to allow him to live alone as long as possible. Seems something happened to turn the dementia severe and without notice. Anyway, the old fellow had no credit cards and always known to carry cash, so the worst was a real possibility.

There is a remote area about 5 miles from where I live and is a very popular place for horse riding and 4 wheeling and follows a major creek down the valley for several miles. There are several old roads which are now just rutted out trails that take you to the creek. Evidently with the nice weather on Saturday the creek area was active with someone who was trying to enjoy the day. Hasn't been said whether 4 wheeling or why this person was in those wilds but around 3 PM they found the car lodged in the creek. Called the police and it is in such a remote and rough place it was too late to do anything with darkness setting in, so the police camped out and stood guard over the area until daylight. Yesterday morning around 9 AM they retrieved the body and it is confirmed to be the old gentleman.

The area was a familiar part of the old mans younger years and he ran those hills and valleys as a boy. How he got the car down that cow track is mind boggling but they're saying it appears he went into the creek elsewhere and with all the rain and high water, washed down to where it was spotted.

So, prayers for the family because they have lived a month of pure hell. The positive (if there is any in this situation) is the old man's wallet was intact along with his cash and his pistol was in the car as well so it was an accident, not that he was abducted.
