I have read different rumors to the effect of a possible resurrection and reintroduction of the Chevrolet El Camino. Built on the current Camaro chassis.

This would be on heck of a wicked ride, and one that I would definitely be interested in. If and when said vehicle might just come around.

I bought a brand new (in 1986) El Camino. It turned out to be just about the biggest lemon I ever owned. However, with the advancements in current vehicle technology, I would certainly consider a new one this time around.

If GM would bring this vehicle back, I am sure they wouldn't have any trouble selling it. Certainly not to me, because I am due for a new ride in the next few years.

About the only issue I might have is if they do indeed build it on the Camaro chassis, I would hate to see it priced right up there as well. Or if it has the very same horrible blind spots.

Looking out of a new Camaro reminds me of trying to see out of a tank turret....

You said Camaro chassis.

The chassis has nothing to the visibility from the c*ckpit.

Cup, you are wrong. The chassis of a vehicle is the basic framework of a platform. Many vehicles can be built off of said product line, with changes here and there accordingly.

My current vehicle was built on the W bodied platform. At that time, GM made the Impala, the Grand Prix, and the Lacrosse. Each with a different feel / flare on both the in and out sides to it.

Now with the weapons at my disposal, True Car and other internet sites, I can and will get a good deal at whichever dealership I decide to go with. So if I don't get what I want, the dealership will get what they don't want. A departing lost customer.

I had an 84 Olds Omega. The same frame and cab were used across the GM board. Cadillac,Buick,Pontiac and Chevy each had a model. Replaced the nose with one from a Buick. Bolted right on.

Holden Monaro actually brought this concept back to life almost a decade back.
It had a beefy V8,and some liked the looks of it...some didn't.
If I remember,it was called the XR8.
it had a would be price tag starting at around 42 grand.
a little mediocre to me,being it didn't really have a long bed to really brag about, and they don't really serve a purpose.
im sure theres images of it floating on the internet still

Yes, a Monte Carlo SS could also be built off the Camaro platform as well as the El Camino.

I am thinking about getting another 2-3 years out of my current ride before I show my happy self into any dealership showroom. Perhaps by that time, GM will make something I both like and can afford.

I usually go every year to the Chicago Auto Show. Not because I am in the market for anything. More along the lines of if I ever get into a fender bender, the insurance company more than likely would total my gem.........

Hey Karr, you should contact Bub, in 60s Forum. He has said he goes to the Chicago Auto show, too. Even offered to meet with me last year but he never re-contacted me to set a date, time & place.

Cup, I try to go to the Chicago Auto Show on my day off during the week of said show. The show runs from 2-11-2017 until 2-20-2017. I refuse to go on a weekend. Too many people for my liking.

Also, since I am on call with my job during the winter, that in itself does pose a problem if they call me in on my day off. Which has happened in the past. One little telephone call, and yours truly goes into work and ixnay Chicago.

That was an old one. I do not want an old vehicle. I am looking forward to a new one, if and when it's ever made.

I fly old airplanes, and have had enough trouble with them, let me tell you. My one flight instructor called it cheating death.

Has anyone heard anymore about it?
I would at least like to drive one and see what they come up with. (I did like the older El Camino).

Wonder why the SSR didn't make it? (Kind of a pick-up)
Seems it had a good drive train - Did it have a frame? (or unibody)?

It was over 42 K when it came out, over 10? years ago. Between the incredible asking price, and the dealers marking them up, it tanked.

I also think it had a removable hard top. Something else to go wrong and leak when it rains. Not something I was even remotely interested in.
