I thik it is a blessing.
not just in remembering something you read and then being able to find it directly by the source.
but, because you remember all of the actions of people and remember the ones whose better actions outweighed their bad

I can do both. I have a photographic memory, but can turn it on, and off. What I want to recall, I can. What I want to forget I can. I recall happy moments from when I was less than a year old, and I have forgotten less happy things which happened a month ago. The brain is full of what amount to the biological equivalent of light switches. The mind can turn them on, or off, at will. It helps to get a bit of training. Yoga / meditation, and self hypnosis, are useful.

I would have gotten much better grades with the photographic memory. College would have been a lot easier too, but it wouldn't have helped writing papers.

Oh don't worry about that! My Aunt Rose was the same way! She could recite her Rosary in Slovenian just like she did 85 years before, but couldn't remember she had lunch two hours before. It was too bad too as it was a good lunch. (We were visiting that day.) She made it to 99.
