Quote from Herr. Adolph E. Knoch:

The "gift of tongues", even when it was a reality, was nothing but a noise unless impelled by the power of love.

We all know who is making the big noises in here..

28 In the later revelation (Eph.4:11) "suited to transcendence" (12:31), we have a revised list of the gifts. There the lesser graces, such as powers, healing, and languages are omitted.

That this would be the case is predicted in the next chapter (13:8), where we are told of a time when the gift of languages would cease.

The revised list given in Ephesians, however, looks backward as well as forward. Apostles and prophets are no longer necessary to the edifying of the body of Christ.

We are distinctly told that prophecies will be abrogated (13:8) when maturity arrives. They were needed only so long as God's written revelation was incomplete. So that, today, the special gifts have narrowed down to three: evangelists, pastors and teachers.

31 Most of the graces were transient, suited to immaturity, hence the apostle seeks to lead them up to those which will remain in the impending transcendent administration, in which we find ourselves today.

1 The "gift of tongues", even when it was a reality, was nothing but a noise unless impelled by the power of love.

Uness the person is speaking a real language, it is not the gift of tongues at all. It is best case scenario, gibberish, and worst case scenario, from the devil.

Shame... Gifts of God cannot be "abrogated" (as LUD likes to say) by Man.

Keep digging your punishment hole. God will ablige you.

Lud, Speaking in tongues is biblical -- it is not 'gibberish'.

God's gifts are extended not just to the speaker but to the translator of the message. If the message cannot be translated the message is not from God.

Speaking in tongues is not from satan... The denial of God's gifts is from satan.

Beware hypocrites, God doesn't hit with a stick.

Cupocheer, you didn't read what I said, or you didn't understand it. I didn't say ALL tongue speaking was bogus, only tongue speaking that isn't a real language is bogus. If it's not a real language, if it's just jibber-jabber-jibber, it's bogus, and not real prayer.

Prayer is communicating with God. Gibberish is not communicating with anybody.

This is from Adolph's translation:

1 Cor 8:13 Love is never lapsing: yet, whether prophecies, they will be discarded, or languages, they will cease, or knowledge, it will be discarded.

9 For out of an instalment are we knowing, and out of an instalment are we prophesying.

10 Now whenever maturity may be coming, that which is out of an instalment shall be discarded.

11 When I was a minor, I spoke as a minor, I was disposed as a minor, I took account of things as a minor. Yet when I have become a man, I have discarded that which is a minor's.

12 For at present we are observing by means of a mirror, in an enigma, yet then, face to face. At present I know out of an instalment, yet then I shall recognize according as I am recognized also.

13 Yet now are remaining faith, expectation, love -- these three. Yet the greatest of these is love

I'm not making this stuff up.

Paul himself said "these three...are remaining".

Lud -- STOP TELLING ME WHAT I DID AND WHAT I DIDNT DO!

YOU HAVE NO FK WAY OF READING MY MIND OR THOUGHTS.

Had I not read and understood your hypocritical, anti God, idiotic post I wouldn't have responded. Got it?

Oh mighty Carmarck the Magnificent please tell us what LANGUAGE you have determined that GOD communicates in that satisfies YOUR superiority over we lowly God creations!

If it is a real language, if someone can translate it into English, then it might---might---be from God. If it is just gibberish, it might be (1) the person doing some spiritual self-indulgence, what St. John of the Cross calls spiritual materialism, or (2) it might be from the devil.

Speaking in tongues often leads to instability, sexual excesses, and bipolar disorder. "By their fruits ye shall know them."

God loves you, Cupocheer, and eants you to talk to Him regularly (prayer). Prayer is communicating with God. Personal relationship with Jesus? That's what the personal relationship with God and Jesus is---prayer. Gibberish is not communication. Gibberish is not prayer.

Wow, LUD -- You are way out of your league on this topic.

Your post is proof positive that you do not know what you are talking about.

"Tongues" is God's message to a speaker that a gifted translator translates. The language doesn't have to be translated to English, Lud. God speaks to all languages.

Have you ever attended a mass conducted in Latin, Lud?

You need to visit the upper room of the Bible, Lud.

You blew your wad on this topic, Lud.

I'll pray for you.

For awhile there I attended some Catholic charismatic meetings. I spoke in tongues. I heard all kinds of false doctrines being taught in these meetings. I began to realize that I wasn't really speaking any angelic tongue, I was just babbling.

St. Padre Pio, an Italian priest 1887-1968, had the real gift of toungues. He would preach in Italian, and French people present would hear French, Spanish people Spanish, German people German, Americans and Brits English, etc.

I keep in touch through face book, she and her kids are doing well. I left her Forum, not for any bad reason, just that I felt like a hockey player showing up at a basket ball game. I was the only Christian on it I think, so just thought I was holding the others back. Still friends with most of them.

Mind you, I feel that way here with Christians as well, lol.

I still talk to Rhonda , Rita and Tony , cannot recall their screen names. No idea about ourself, he hates people that hunt and Conservatives, so I blocked him in the last election. I think its hilarious though, since to American`s on this thread they would call me a left wing commie!

Mind you, if Dwight D Eisenhower were alive today, they would call him a commie, too.

The one I argue and talk with the most is Montrealguy, but he was mostly politics, a big liberal JT backer. We have a lot of fun. Not the same as here in American politics.

Never did find out what happened to Xashes, when I came back, she had stopped posting.

I am glad to see Sir Clarence back. I am going to head to the UK in a month or two, I`d love to buy him and Smitty ( the Jewish poster, if you remember? ) a Pint when I am in London. Watch, bigD will be screaming, alcoholic ! lol This trip, I want to visit the inner and maybe, outer Hebrides. See where part of my family came from, a place called Argylshire.

I still have not figured who cup is, and wonder of she used to be on? Lol, I dunno.

True that, and at least dugy only considered him self to be a teacher of woman, and not the leading Bible scholar in the west.

Lowered Expectations, when you brag about studying Scripture for 40 years, and are the leading authority on Scripture, but on every question you have to check what Knock said in order to answer.

Might I interject?

One may be a student of scripture for 40 years, or their entire life, and still not be an authority on scripture.

That is one of the main reasons theologians don't always agree. It took 72 rabbis to translate the Old HEBREW Bible to the Septuagint and they still didn't agree on everything. Do you think modern theologians are any more insightful this far out from the root source?

God gives to each what they seek -- He is not an author of confusion.

For this very reason Jesus founded the Church, to teach us the true meanings of different passages in scripture. See 2 Peter 1:20, 2 Peter 3:16, 1 Timothy 3:15, and Proverbs 3:5.

There are other reasons Jesus founded the Church but that's one of the main reasons.

God does not need a Bible at all. God knows everything. God gave us the Bible, through the Catholic Church, to teach us about God. 2 Peter 3:16 says many things in the Bible are hard to understand. That's why we need the Church's intsructions and interpretations.

"How can I [know what the scriptures mean] unless some man guide me?"

Quote from isna_la_wica:
True that, and at least dugy only considered him self to be a teacher of woman, and not the leading Bible scholar in the west.

Lowered Expectations, when you brag about studying Scripture for 40 years, and are the leading authority on Scripture, but on every question you have to check what Knock said in order to answer.

Like I said he don't know his scripture - including the one Adolph Knoch translated:

Loop asks if Adolph is claiming the 2nd covenant is not in effect:

Quote from loop:
Am I understanding this correctly?
Is this man saying the 2nd covenant has not yet been made?

Quote from the lying bigHand:
I am not sure what you mean by the "2nd covenant," as this is not a Scriptural term

Quote from loop:
CLV Heb 10 then He has declared, "Lo! I am arriving to do Thy will, O God!He is despatching the first, that He should be establishing the second."

This is speaking of the second covenant, the new covenant.

Quote from the lying bigHand:
It helps when you post the verse as well as the chapter.

It would help if you actually knew the scriptures or what you were talking about instead of relying on Ol' Adolph's fawlty "theology".

"this is not a Scriptural term" - playing that game again and again - of course the only "scriptural terms" come from the Authorised CLV..

You need to stick to trying to explain what the soul is - we already know what an arsoul is from reading your posts and looking at your profile..

Just butting in, I suppose, since no one posts with me for telling the biblical truth, but aren't there many God given covenents? Not just the one God made with Moses and Jesus coming to earth?

All the covenants made with Abraham were "subsumed" into the Mosaic covenant as a temporary covenant to whom the promises were actually made - Christ. All find their fulfillment in Christ and the new covenant.

(Gal 3:16 KJV) Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

(Gal 3:29 KJV) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

(Gal 4:30 KJV) Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.

The bondwoman was cast out in the war of 66-70AD never to be heirs of the promises. It's done. finished.

1st john 2:27
27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

It seems your misuse of something said, by someone without the holy spirit is refuted plainly by the scriptures.

Can you read lud?

Please tell us what the above verse says, and then explain how or why you claim we need the church to teach us.

Quote from the lying bigHand:
Now I have looked all through Galatians and I have not been able to find the word "temporary." Perhaps this is part of his fantasy as well.

Of course the word "temporary" is not in Galatians - the text defines it though. It's not my "job" to educate you on what you lack, my job is to mock your assumed superiority..

Of course the bigHand is clueless as to what dispensational "theology" is and what it claims, all of them consider the Old Covenant to be temporary - what they wrongly state is that it is still yet future and only pertains to the flesh nation of Israel.

Leading dispensationalist "voice" J. Dwight Pentecost in his things to come writes:

The bigHand needs to spend less time reading Superman comics so he won't look like Duff Man...

"bad breath...bad research...bad presence"...

Better check with Adolph for your next response...

1 John 2:27, according to the Challoner notes in my Doauy Rheims Bible, refers to the teachings of heretics who were trying to seduce Christians from the true faith. It certainly doesn't mean to ban all teaching---even Protestant churches have teachers.

of course there isn't a ban on teaching.
This scripture doesn't say that and I didn't say that.

But the fact remains, we do not "need" "have to have" someone teach us if we have the holy spirit within us.

Can we allow someone to teach us? Sure
Can we teach others? Sure

But the "need" for the reaching of the church, the authoritive teaching of the church as you call it, is not needed, and doesn't even exsist.

The only authority, is the holy spirit, the church does not have right or authority to make claims that they are right and everyone e else is wrong.

As a matter of fact, that type of thinking is what started all the killing.
Believe like us or die.

I remember Jesus teaching that don't you?

And your notes, they are notes from another man and his opinion.

Scripture, that scripture doesn't mention heritics.

We most certainly, absolutely do need to have human teachers in the Lord. Common sense says so. Acts 8:31 says so.

If we do not need teachers, if tge Holy Spirit truly does teach all Christian souls directly, why do churches have seminaries, Bible studies, Sunday schools, or sermons?

What the Holy Spirit does is enlighten us so we see the truth of the Catholic faith and embrace it.

lud it isn't me your saying is wrong..it's the inspired word.

Change it if it doesn't suit you.

Btw, your church, the k e you always say put the NT together, it included these verse...go figure

And you may want to watch them ifs
Jesus said the holy spirit would lead us into all truths.
Not me
Did he lie?
If you claim that part isn't true, then you cast doubt on it all.
Your doing just like tnteacher101 does, accepting what he agrees with and doubting what he doesnt.

Why do we have seminaries, Bible studies, Sunday schools or sermons?
Well duh, study to show thyself approved, that's why we have all these things where people study.

You thought you were slick in asking that question didn't ya.

Study to show thyself approved? I thought you said all we had to do is listen to the Holy Spirit.

In fact, if all we have to do is listen to the Holy Spirit, why do we need a Bible at all?

Do you have anything intelligent to say?

As I already said, I didn't say those things.JESUS CHRIST did.
You do know who that is don't you?
Your church does teach you about him don't they?
Do they say, listen to him? Or listen to them?

Jesus never said that all one had to do was listen to the Holy Spirit. Nowhere in the Nible does it say that. Acts 8:31 teaches that we need teachers, as does common sense.

Jesus also never said that scripture alone was a sufficient teacher, no foes scripture itself say that. In the contrary 2 Thessalonians 2:15 specifically says that we are to adhere to both the written scripture and the oral traditions of the apostles, the leaders of the Church.

"Study to show thyself approved by God" is very sound advice. We should study not the Bible, but all the Catholic Church's teachings. In particular, we should study the early Christian writers, the "fathers of the Church", because most of them lived only a few hundred years after Christ and were in a better position to know what Jesus meant when He said this or that. Some of them, like Polycarp and Ignatius of Antioch, knew Peter and John personally.

"Study to show thyself approved of God" proves that just sitting around waiting for the Holy Spirit to tell us something, like the Quakers did, just won't work.
