Please share your experiences that brought laughter to your life.
I was organizing a catch all closet yesterday and found a box of old photo's. These were pictures of my son as he grew up. Naturally I had to walk down memory lane for awhile. Ran into one that as soon as I saw it I started laughing. He was decked out in a little jacket I had made for him.
The story is: His father was an avid hunter/fisherman and spent every spare moment enjoying his sport. His hunting partner was an older gentleman who actually was more of a grandfather figure to my little boy. Sometimes the guy would stop in and run off with him for a little while. They loved each other.
This was the time when the battery powered varmit callers just hit the market. They were basically a battery powered record player and the records were of distressed rabbits, etc. With the foxes and coyotes taking over the county, it became a favorite sport to go out at night with the caller.
The grandfather figure decided on this particular night to take my 5 year old son along. I had found some camaflouge fabric and had made him a jacket similiar to his Dad's. So son grabbed his toy gun and strutted out the door in his new jacket.
They went to a farm that was overgrown with blackberry briars and set up for the calling. Chose a spot where a tree had fallen so parked themselves on it and fired up the record player. Heard a rustling in the briars and grandpa put his finger to his lips to tell my son to be very quite. The guys raised their shotguns, ready for the first sight of the varmit. Son mimicked with his little gun. Suddenly a red fox shot out of the briar patch straight at the caller thinking he was going to snatch a rabbit for his dinner.
Son shot from his seat and yelled BANG, BANG. Have you ever seen a cat that looked like it had hinges in it's spine and can whip around so fast it's rear will fly sideways. That's exactly how the men described this fox. Grandpa could have killed that kid. Had just run off a red fox and the fur market was paying $125 per pellet that year.
