The United States blasted a Syrian air base with a barrage of cruise missiles Friday morning in fiery retaliation for this week’s gruesome chemical weapons attack against civilians. President Donald Trump cast the U.S. assault as vital to deter future use of poison gas and called on other nations to join in seeking “to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria.”


The U.S. strikes — some 59 missiles launched from the USS Ross and USS Porter — hit the government-controlled Shayrat air base in central Syria, where U.S. officials say the Syrian military planes that dropped the chemicals had taken off. The U.S. missiles hit at 8:45 p.m. in Washington, 3:45 Friday morning in Syria. The missiles targeted the base’s airstrips, hangars, control tower and ammunition areas, officials said.

Trump ordered the strikes without approval from Congress or the backing of the United Nations. U.S. officials said he had the right to use force to defend national interests and to protect civilians from atrocities.

Yeah he didn't get congressional or u.n. approval...so I wonder how he is going to justify it...although I don't blame him....im glad to see he took a hard line on assad since the gas attack....

It was an attack on a Syrian airbase staffed with Assads' airforce and Russian forces. NOT innocent civilians. The airbase where the Russians watched as that airplane was loaded with its' deadly cargo and than launched and unleashed on innocent lives. A message to Assad and his cohorts and a determent not to use chemical weapons again. We could have taken out all 6 air bases in one swoop if war is what we were wanting. Escalation? Good god woman, what rock have you been hiding under? Escalation would be gassing your own people! What has your country done to prevent these atrocities? Oh that's right...... nothing.

To my knowledge the UN was investigating the attacks. There was a lot of false information presented and Russia are not providing any information. Yet, they are well known for their chemical weapons.

Instead of waiting for the UN you bombed. In other words failed to wait for information and Trump made his own decision.

You don't know who was on that base and you don't know if their were people being held that were innocent. You just took revenge without looking into it properly.

They were NOT unwilling to make. They were investigating the chemical attack. That is cause for consideration. The only people who really don't give a shit about this is Russia and that's why they are claiming they don't have any information.

Think about it. A country well known for Chemical warefare, that actually promote pictures of the slain innocent. Who are now pulling out of an agreement about international space and are condeming you as an act of aggression. Syria and Russia are allies. Does any of this make sense?

You stated what are the UK doing. The UK as part of the UN were a part of those talks and no way did they condone the chemical attacks. Yet, you seem to assume they are with your earlier statements. That's the point of the UN. United stance.
