Sylvester Stallone stated that the Rocky character was patterned and conceived from Chuck Wepner and his fight with Ali....where he took a beating but went almost the whole fight, to be TKO'd in the 15th round by Ali and no one expected him to last but a few rounds.
It must be true because Wepner sued him over this and won an out of court settlement.
But after watching the movie: The Cinderella Man...if I didn't know about Sly using Chuck Wepner as the basis for the character of Rocky, I would have thought he used Jim Braddock and his fight against Max Baer as the basis for Rocky...Plus the story line of the first Rocky movie and Jim Braddock's life and relation with his wife over the fight and etc...is similar too.
Okay the question...which movie did you like better overall?
The first Rocky or the Cinderella Man ?
Just a foot note...the real Max Baer's son...Max Baer Jr...was non other than Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies.

yep..when asking a question, the op should give his/her opinion first.
If I was asked to watch the movie: Cinderella Man and then tell which I liked better.
I would have told them...what's the point of watching it?...because I'll choose Rocky...because the impact it had, the icon it made of the Rocky series and a good movie...etc, etc.
But after watching the Cinderella man...I have to give it the nod. Plus the whole movie is based on what really happened in Jim's life, and it gave indications of how the Great Depression really effected the poor too.
I have "sneaking suspicion" that Sly did see the Ali/Wepner fight as the basis for the idea of the Rocky Movie.
But that the screen play for Rocky was patterned after Jim Braddock's life, relation with his wife, and the fight with Max Baer.

^^^^^^Its been out for a while....but came up on Dish...so the first time I only got to watch part of it.
Last night I saw it from beginning to end....I thought to myself: so this is who Sly conceived the Rocky character from.
Then I remember he stated that it was Chuck Wepner.

Russell Crowe played Jim Braddock
Its funny because all the Irish were behind the under dog Braddock...just as all the Italians were behind Rocky.
Even Braddock's wife opposed the fight, because Max Baer had killed two boxers in the ring before...then just before the fight, she came up to him and told him, that he can't win without her support...and she gave it to him.
Braddock was thought of as an over the hill fighter...and living in poverty.
Sound familiar?

I canceled Direct and went over to Dish.
Since then, I've received countless calls and mail to go back to Direct....even after I told them to buzz off and stop bothering me about it.
Jeez...do we have to send a hit man after them to get them to stop...

I saw the original cinderella man movie that came out many years ago. I haven't seen the new one yet but I'll have to check it out.
I probably wouldn't be the right person to ask how I felt about it because I'm fan of old style boxing.
I've seen all of Ali's fights, the original cinderella man movie and rocky.
I liked it all.

okay after my first post I looked the movie up and watched it. I think they're both good movies. I liked the original cinderella man movie too.
