I seriously nearly was killed today. I helped some guy whos car was stalled. I was pushing it with another guy who also came up to help.
The nearest driveway we could reach was angled upwards. The guy steering didn't turn properly and it ended up hitting the curb.
The other guy says "I'll be right back..." leaving me to hold the car BY MYSELF.
Now, I can leg press 500 pounds. But a car weighs a considerable bit more than that. So I was slowly being pushed back into freaking traffic.
This happened not once but TWICE.
The second time hurt my ankle bad, twisted it and bruised my heel. I am now sitting in considerable pain.

It was smack dab in the center of the city. 7th St and McDowell at 3:40, the start of rush hour traffic.
It would have caused HUGE delays for thousands of people.

I have done this a few times before actually... but I have never had to push the car UP.
I'd have been fine if the guy hadn't walked off to try and help the guy steering (who was kinda a little ummm... out of it.)
I leaned into the car with my shoulder, braced my foot behind me and pushed against the car and that stopped the push back, but holy crap was it close. I was almost shoved into oncoming traffic.
Second time twisted my ankle a bit and another guy had come over, heard me scream and helped push.
The weight of the car was basically held up by my heel and my leg muscles. That f**king hurt.

Be very careful helping people who are "out of it" as you say.
I guy I worked with died trying to stop a drunk woman driving.
They get her stopped but she tried to leave again and she dragged his a** under the car.

As I had said, traffic was heavy. Sidestepping would have caused someone to hit that car. I'm not putting others in harm's way to save myself.

Then again, I could leg press a 1000 on the work out machine and could have held the car in place, but not now.

The work out machines I use only go to 500. I could probably do more but whatevs. I'll take 500 at almost 40.
I am impressed with myself for being able to hold it by myself at all.
Btw, just drove past the place and the car is still there right where we left it.

There was nowhere to move to. Any further back and I was in traffic. Side stepping would have pushed me back before getting to the side. It was hold that car or die.

On the subject of "nearly dying today"....everyone probably "nearly" dies multiple times a day and don't even know it.
Placement of your vehicle 1 or 2 seconds differently on your commute to work or the shops could result in your death.
It's a bit silly to say "I nearly died" when you are completely uninjured...it's like saying "Wow I nearly won the lottery...I was only 6 numbers off winning the jackpot!"

Umm no, you could have moved to the side well before it went in to traffic..obviously the car was not moving backwards at 30mph! You can accelerate faster than a slowly crawling car the 5ft necessary to get out of the way to the side. Human can go from 0 to 10mph pretty much instantly..cars simply rolling back..can't.
We've all pushed a car...a very slow moving car...which it would have been you could easily sidestep the 5ft to the side to get out of the way of the car, and out of the traffic..before it happens...and as for it happening twice...ummm it wouldn't have happened twice for me...first time the dude left is when I'd leave too.
OMG I'm behind a vehicle moving at .02mph!!! what do I dooooo...ahhhhhhhhhhhh
Traffic was 2 inches behind me dumbass, and I am not the kind of person to deliberately allow an accident, possibly getting people hurt. That car might not have been goin 30 mph, but the cars on the street WERE. Long story short: f**k you.

I would have sent Mr Brucey, my manservant, to hold the car. He's very strong and could have picked it up and placed it where necessary! While this incident was ongoing, I would have enjoyed a nice glass of wine!

To me...that's beats being crushed in traffic.
So, I guess the guy who said he'd be back a minute never showed back up.
Its tough call, because I'm the type to help out in a situation like that too....but you get a little older and see more people get hurt trying to do things and yourself....and you tend to draw the line quicker.
A few more of these situations under your belt and you'll become more apprehensive too.

So you were 2" from traffic?? really...2"...2" and you thought it wise to be behind a stationary (or slowly rolling back) vehicle...that wasn't even your vehicle...you apparently were so slow and weak yourself you couldn't have
1. Jumped UP on the vehicle and then crawled over the top of it
2. side step out of the way
3. not be such a f**king dumbass to be there in the first place
4. understand that you were not "nearly killed" as you were not even injured.
I was nearly killed this morning by a massive asteroid..fortunately it didn't hit though

1: I didn't block then respond. I responded then blocked.
2: The car didn't start on the hill, it started in the road. And it wasn't a hill, it was an incline leading to a parking lot.
3: We pushed it up the incline, then the other guy pushing let go to help the guy steering... a dumb move on his part.
I was pushed backwards, got my foot set in a holding position just in time ending inches from traffic.
