I knew about it but I used to be very good in geography and history in school. My favorite part when being interrogated in geography was the so called mute world map.

Nah I just liked history and geography. Plus that river is mentioned a lot everywhere in books or docu when speaking about Washington. If I remember correctly is mentioned quiet often in The Days of Condor too.

p.s. I hope you're doing well Yets.

No why stupid? lol
Just happened that I read the book before I knew about the movie. I'm a sucker about everything that had to do with spies, especially Cold War at the time. And of course I use to love Robert Redford. Well, I think I'm gonna have to re-watch that movie too. It has been a long time.

Well yes, the way the question is structured makes the difference in English

"Where is Potomac" would reference a place.

"Where is THE Potomac" would reference the river.

The question was the former...re: the place.

I don't need google for that. Who on earth doesn't know Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Let alone a WWII nerd as myself. Ugh!
One title would suffice: "The World at War" BBC and Laurence Olivier.
You try google now.

yets, I've read a lot about it and seen many documentaries, yet I can't possible imagine what you must've been through.

I don't know if you've seen Roberto Rossellini's movie "Germania anno zero" (Germany, Year Zero in english). You've gone through that but I reccomend it to everybody else.

I agree. Just wow. Just pure ugly.

Yets, my father is foreign-born, and he was always my go-to person for geography (and other subjects) help. American History, too. It always amazed me how much he knew about the world. And by contrast, how little native-born Americans knew about their own country, let alone another.

Plus, he and my aunts and uncles lived through WWII, also, and the few stories they told made this American eternally grateful to not have had to live through that and awed by their strength and fortitude. I don't know that I could have persevered in the face of what they endured. People can do some terrible things to each other, and people can also do some amazing things for each other.

Put that bottle down old man, and try to comprehend for once what is written. And by the way, the Germans do study that part of their own history more than anybody else in this planet. It is not just a priority. It is mandatory for them. So, think before opening that dirty mouth you old ignorant miserable fool.

Here's a thought, why don't you work on your reading comprehension skills....... what Yets said was that she didn't REMEMBER American history that was taught. You might study a little history yourself. Do you have any idea how hard it was during the years of restoration for German citizens? Do you understand that the majority who survived were NOT Nazi sympathizers? How many starved and died from malnutrition? Forced to make due while living amongst the ruin and destruction of their homes and cities? Women raped by the Allied forces and the ensuing children born out of that violence were ostracized? The Berlin Blockade? Constant hunger and orphaned children running wild on the streets? Disease ran rampant with little or no medical supplies accessible. The Reichsmark had been so devalued and was completely worthless. I could go on but with your mindset, what would be the point?

That post of yours shows how ignorant YOU really are and the ugly mindset behind it.

This is me paying respect to one of your dead soldiers, at the american cemetary in Normandy. A place which I honour and respect every time I go there.

All of us tried to our very best to SURVIVE... So when I went to School history meant very little to most of us ... By the Way ,after all the Mess was over My Mother went back to Berlitz School and became a Translater for Westinghouse. I was always very proud of her.

You're welcome, westy.
It's nothing, I know. But it is a place which truly moves me every time I visit, and I profoundly respect. Even just walking at the Omaha Beach gives me goosebumps and tears. I do not allow anybody to pass judgment about me on things that they have no clue about. Let alone some drunk, bitter, jaded fools.

Yets, you must be considerably older that 66 if you remember your city getting bombed in the 40s.

I don't think Yets ever said she was in the city at the time of the bombing...

I think she was recalling her childhood in that city after WWII was already over...
