I used to be a huge Anne Rice fan - read the Vampire Chronicles over and over till my copies literally fell apart. I tried to read her The Witching Hour, but couldn't take it when someone started having sex with ghosts right near the beginning. I love The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned and Pandora, as well as one of her individual novels, Servant of the Bones.

i like anne rice to a point. i mean interview with the vampire is classic modern vampire literature, and a must for anyone who is even remotely interested in vampires. I was appalled watching the queen of the damned movie, but i have to say i loved the soundtrack (guilty pleasure!!). i could not get into the novels after queen of the damned. I was disappointed by Blackwood Farm. I cherish the witching hour trilogy.

The movie was horrible. It was an alright movie on its own, but hardly had anything to do with the book except that the characters had the same names, and there were some similar elements, like Lestat being in a rock band and the vampire bars and such. I'll just never forget... during the midst of my obsession, I was part of an Anne Rice mailing list. Someone had gotten an early script of the QD movie on Ebay and told us all how in the script, Lestat and Jessy fall in love. We were all laughing our butts off, thinking that it was just a ridiculous joke. Well... sad. That's all I can say.
I just picked up Interview again after a good five years of not reading it... and still love it.

i am going to take a stand here and say that the witching hour is the best story of all the mayfaire witch books... lasher drags but it is worth reading to get through to read taltos and fully understand it. Plus in taltos you get to meet katherine mayfaire's first street family (the crazy half) and a new prominent character gets intro'd

I've only read the vampire chronicles and only through "The Vampire Armand" (book 5 I think?) She's a decent author, but I'll reserve judgment until I get through "The Witching Hour" which I'll start when this semester is over. So far her writing style is a bit predictable, but perhaps that's just the Vampire Chronicles. I enjoyed them nonetheless.

well technicly(?) the vampire series and the 'witching hour' saga characters do not fully mesh until Blackwood farm... i have not read after that. but i don't know som e people can read shit out of order and fill it in later.

I have enjoyed all her books up until she went all Catholic and wrote Christ The Lord - Out of Egypt. Now I did give her the benefit of the doubt, bought and read it but that is the last book of hers I will buy.

I'm still getting through the Vampire Chronicles, but I think Rice is an awesome writer.
So far my favorite is Interview with the Vampire.
I'm almost done with Queen of the Damned, and its good too.

I know this is a silly question. I am a big fan of Rice's vampires, BUT I've always wondered..... What order do they go in? Do you start with one, and read from there? I've read them all, in every which order.

It is best to read them in order, The Mayfair Witch series is a good example of that.
On the inside cover sometimes there printed order of her writing them.
Did you ever read her Claiming of Sleeping Beauty ones ? She wrote them under the name of A.N. Roquelaure. There good too. It's a 3 volume set.

Believe it or not, my fave was the Mayfield/Mayfair Witches. I didn't really care for Lasher. I did like Interview with a Vampire, the Vampire Lestat, & Queen of the Damned. After that, they started to be a little off. Have you tried the Laurell K Hamilton series of Anita Blake and Meredith Gentry?

I like vampire literature overall, but I haven't really read many of Rice's books; It'll take me a while to buy them all as I never have money. But I have read a bit and I do like her writing. I have Queen of the Damned, but haven't read it yet; I'm presently reading Blackwood Farm.

You can always try the Public library, That is a good place to get her book to read. Anne's son Chris is a writer too. You might like to try some of his books. I have the first 2 , I thinks he's written 3 now. Enjoy.

We are talking many many years ago, but I liked the fact that she blended factual and fictional together in some of her books. I remember reading The Mummy and wishing it had been made into a movie like the Lestate one.
I don't follow her anymore, but believe her son or daughter have taken to the novels now and following her footsteps.
Good day all,

I'm quite surprised that no one has mentioned "The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy" or "Exit to Eden". Sleeping Beauty, written under the pen name of A.N.ROQUELAURE, and "Exit" under the name of ANNE RAMPLING. For those who aren't familiar, pick these books up, and when you have finished reading them, come back here and post your thoughts...For you that are familiar, well, you know what I'm speaking of. It would be very interesting to hear what people might say about this extraordinary reading experience.....nettielynn & imcindy..you ladies are awesome..LOL

I used to be an Anne Rice fan. I still think the best thing she ever did was Interview with the Vampire and that it's probably one of the best vampire books ever because the way it's written, it's almost believable.
I saw her about 10 years ago at Ruth Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL when I was living in Clearwater. Ruth Eckerd has THE best program for inviting popular writers. I met Tom Robbins and Carl Hiaasen there too.
But, back to Anne Rice... There must have been a thousand Goths there to meet and greet her and get her autograph. We were there to see somebody else that day, but it's doubtful I'd have stood in line that long to meet her anyway. I mean, you could just barely see her table for all the black caped and black-haired groupies ranging in age from teens to MUCH older.

I used to like everything she had out...but these latest books aren't interesting me. She went a little off course after the demise of her husband. but her son, christopher rice, his books are pretty decent. If I had to pick favorite, it would be the Sleeping Beauty Series and The Mummy (should have had a sequel)

She has exactly one book that I would say was engrossing back when I read it and that is Interview With The Vampire. After that, her stuff just isn't as exciting to me. But I find supernatural tales to be fairly dreary anyway. So you can imagine how the ongoing vampire mania puzzles me.
But I did like that first book.

The claiming of sleeping beauty series was really good.
It is a three part series.
Beauty's Capture
Beauty's Punishment
Beauty's Release
They are a romance/erotica set that an ex got me into reading and I could not put it down. The stuff coming from this woman's mind was just surprising to me and I enjoyed every second of reading them.

Her books are well written enough, but everyone in all I have read are homosexuals. In 8, or so, of her novels I've read, the only two characters who are not homos Are a pedophile, and the child he molested, and turned. I don't mind a few gay characters, but too many is too much. She seems to have an agenda, so I quit reading her.

Oh, I absolutely love anything Anne Rice wrote before she drank the crazy juice and denounced all those lovely works. The Sleeping Beauty trilogy was brilliant. Unfortunately all my copies were stolen and I have yet to replace them. Interview was the first book of hers I'd ever read, and still up there with my favorites as well, and the film is in my top list too.

Hmm... I wonder how many die hard Anne Rice fans out there are aware that she has a very twisted sexual imagination... lol... She wrote several books under the name Anne Rampling (Exit to Eden and Belinda) and a 3 book series under the name A.N. Roquelaure (The Beauty Series). All of these books have a similar theme, which is bondage/ domination and submission/ sexual slavery and are extremely erotic works! Even if you aren't into that sort of thing, you should check them out... her writing is amazing!
