Fabulous!!!
I visited in 2004. It took me about six months to shop around and compare to find the right trip for me. While I travel extensively, mostly alone, I felt that it was safer and more expedient to book with a small group this time. At least that way everything is arranged and you don't have to fight with the red tape. Language was not a problem.
I settled on a General Tours trip for three weeks for it embraced all that I wanted incorporated: Great Wall in Beijing, Terra-cotta Army in Xian, Lhasa in Tibet, 4 days Yangtze river cruise through the three gorges, and the karst mountains along the Lee river in Guilin. Didn't care for the group but had plenty of time and opportunity to do my own thing.
An amazing country; amazing culture and history - surely the trip of a lifetime. I combined it with a Trans Siberia train journey with a stop-over in Mongolia. Feel free to contact me direct for more info.
