Anyone enjoy reading from Oprah's book list. I have read several, my favorite being She's Come Undone, by Wally Lamb (I think). Just curious what others favorites are. Also taking a break from school and excited about being able to read for pleasure again, any suggestions? I mostly like fiction.

Have read a lot of books from Oprah's list and have never been disappointed in any of them. Have read Wally Lamb and enjoyed it. Icy Sparks, by Gwyn Hyman Rubio is a good read. Also The Woodman's Daughter by same author. My favorite book is The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

The Poisonwood Bible is a close second. I loved it, the only book that I have not enjoyed was We Were the Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates. I really don't care for any of her work, way too descriptive for me.

Ooooh, I enjoyed She's Come Undone. I didn't even know that was on Oprah's list since I don't follow it but that was a great book!

My favorite book of all time is: Embracing the Heart, Engaging the Mind. It was written by Joseph R. Dunn PhD, and is available on Amazon. The link is below.
CHECK IT OUT!!!
http://www.amazon.com/Embracing-Heart-Engaging-Mind-Resilience/dp/0578011565/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t
Here's an excerpt:
People do not live to be two or three thousand-years-old, but their stories do. Stories bring us as close to immortality as we can experience in this life.
Embracing the Heart, Engaging the Mind: Universal Stories of Resilience (with commentary) offers an array of 65 teaching or wisdom stories from around the world that have been passed down from generation to generation. The stories come from a variety of cultures and traditions including Rabbinical (Jewish), Sufi, Zen, and Christian. They come from Europe, the East, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.
Each story is followed by commentary which is mostly psychological in nature with some social and spiritual observations. A few of the stories have an historical basis and are modern; however, most are traditional and date back centuries.
The “Introduction” begins, "In the beginning, before there were psychologists, consultants, and experts, there were stories." The theme of the book is developing psychological resilience, that is, not only surviving but thriving in spite of facing life obstacles. Some would refer to the theme as positive psychology. Psychological resilience deals with developing personal strengths rather than focusing upon psychological disorders.

I kinda agree with Revolution. She's passing the info on to you. But at least it serves a good purpose.
The best book I've seen w the Oprahs Book Club sticker was Pulitzer winner One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It's an incredible magical story of a family's history in a mythical town that dazzles you with sheer narrating power and emotion that just leaves you feeling better for having read it. To see an Oprah sticker on it kinda cheapens it to me. Whatever.

I try to avoid Oprah at any and every opportunity...mostly BS New Age psychobabble...beoks that purport to be deep but are usually just trendy mind-candy appealing to the pseudointellectual...

I enjoy Oprah's booklist. I find them entertaining. I also enjoy her magazine as well. I have yet to find one book which captures my mind. My time limited when it comes to reading. Maybe during the holidays, I will have time to catch up on her list. I do find her list allows the reader to view another lifestyle and situations. I won't stop reading from her booklist.

I'll admit that her decision to whole-heartedly endorse The Necronomicon caused me to furrow my brow, but it was actually a better read than I'd been lead to believe.

Your age does not excuse how you talk to us women telling us what to do and your swearing is a put off to some of us and shouldn't be done infront of ladies, plus it sounds like you have a problem about women, and anger.

Usually the books on Oprah's list are not ones I'd like to read. So, I don't even notice anymore, which ones she picks.
I like picking out what I read, myself. Sometimes I choose authors I've never heard of and find myself being pleasantly surprised.
