Is Air America your favorite radio network. Think the GWB is NOT YOUR President? That we are slipping into a corporatists/fascists regime? The Constitution is slowly being burned by the neocons???

I'll look for your thread and vote yes, but I don't think there's been a new forum here in forever.

We have been on the descent into fascism ever since 9-11-01 and it may not continue UNLESS John McCain wins. We need Obama to win to restore the Bill of Rights which was eradicated by the suspension of habeus corpus and the actual de facto operations of the executive branch under GWB. Jose Padilla is an American citizen who was arrested in Chicago and held an an enemy combatent in Guantonomo with no charges made against him for five years. The question is not "Can it happen here?". Its happened here ever since 9-11-01. Just like it happened in Italy and Germany which were also democratic governments where the people voted fascists into power. I don't know who McCain is today. I know he's not the McCain of 2000. I wouldn't worry about the McCain of 2000. But this McCain has apparently lost what used to be his soul. And even if he were to find it again, the man is 72 years old and his running mate will be nothing but a stooge for the neo-con neo-faschists. What is really scary is that McCain wins and then dies. He's also a cancer survivor and he could even be the target of assasins who want Palin to reach power to promote the ultra-right agenda.
SO PLEASE DON'T EVEN THINK OF VOTING FOR ANYONE OTHER THAN OBAMA. This will be a close election. Your vote matters. Don't wasted it because its going to be either McCain and Palin in the White House or Obama and Biden. Make your choice between them if you care about this country.

What's the Green Party? I agree with guitarman that we've got to vote for Obama/Biden. The other alternative will finish flushing our country down the toilet. Sarah Palin reminds me of a Stepford Wife - fake smile, wind-up doll, spouting Carl Rove's words.

McCain has sold his soul to the neocons. Hillary should have gotten the nomination, but Obama made a big mistake in not making her his VP pick. Now he can't get an edge over McCain/Palin. At least Hillary came away with her dignity intact, and can make another run in four years. God help us now.

CoolChick I love you. Wanna move to California? Hillary didn't oppose the war in 2002, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07 until the Democratic party was so far to the left of her that she was the only one left defending the invasion. It was extrememly poor judgment which was based on political calculation and not what was best for the U.S. If Hillary had opposed the invasion, as Obama did, in 2002 and 2003, she would have won the nomination by a landslide.
Obama ran a brilliant campaign and then made a HUGE BLUNDER by picking Biden for his VP. Biden brings nothing to the ticket. He appeals to nobody. I believe that in view of Hillary's HISTORIC candidacy, that Obama should have felt duty-bound to select a woman as his running mate. He had plenty of good women to choose from, including Hillary who was the most obvious choice. I'm not sure why he decided against her although she did say some very negative things about him during the campaign. But he could have chosen Diane Feinstein and it would have been a BRILLIANT choice. And, of course, there was Sebelius and McCaskil. McCaskil also would have been an excellent choice and Missouri is an important swing state. Biden got him nothing except contempt from women who were pissed that he didn't pick a woman. And this allowed McCain to TRUMP Obama by selecting Palin.
I agree with you completely that McCain SOLD HIS SOUL to the neocons who are committed to taking this country in the direction of fascism. They call it the "umitary executive" and they think that they invented the concept! Like there never was a Hitler, Stlin, or Mussolini.

Hey, Dan. I love you, too. Wanna move to Texas? It's fun being a liberal in the Bible Belt. Well, I have to say it wasn't just women who were pissed when Hillary didn't get the nomination, or when she didn't get the VP nod. Plenty of men, including some I know, voted for her. I know I didn't like her just because she's a woman. I like her because of her knowledge of and good ideas to change our domestic & foreign policy. And, she's a great debater. Yes, you're right, she made a bad call in initially supporting the invasion of Iraq. But, she saw the light. I'm hoping that Sarah Palin will self-destruct before the election. Looks like her skeletons are rattling against her closet door. McCain is now running around with her like a love-struck fool - grinning like an idiot. It's a real dog & pony show. I can' wait for the debates. Bring it on!

CoolChick you're right. The debates are the thing that can turn this around. McCain has the momemtum but he may be peaking right now. He won't have Palin with him at the podium to dabate Obama and when the country gets to watch them side by side they'll see such a contrast that the election may be decided by the first debate. Kennedy could not have beaten Nixon withouth the debate they had which I think was the first televised debate between the presidential candidates. And the audience for these debates will be huge.

Dang, guitarman and cool chick, where have you guys been!!! We could surely have used you around here!

Great to hear your opinions and comments. Let's get some more people in here.

Palin is a dangerous joke, in my opinion. In a country afraid of their shadows, I'm so worried for Obama. Being from the center of the country, I see all kinds of people around me who I'm just sure will never vote for a black man...makes me sick for so many, many reasons. I wish Obama would get out in the heart land and make an impression on these people. I really think he could!

Palin buys into all the things that the "common" American holds dear. McCain must have beat the brush to come up with her and I'll bet she is exhausted from the education that she must be getting as we speak!! Ha! I'm not sure hope much less experience she could possibly have. That is a sad combination.

I'll have to dissagree about Biden. I think he brings a world of good international experience to the table. I've always admired him. I will agree with you about McCaskil. A good hometown gal, I've met here several times and she is the real thing. Maybe next time for her. She's just getting started and has a lot of work to do as Senator. We all just love her.

The debates will be something to watch. Wonder what will happen!

Welcome to the party, Jeannie. I do agree with you that Joe Biden is not a bad VP choice for Obama. He's super-intelligent, has an excellent grasp of foreign policy - and he understands the regular working people of this country. I'm just still pissed-off that Obama didn't choose Hillary. That bad decision is costing him now, not the least because the GOP is (at least for now) gaining ground with their female VP nominee. Did you see the Palin/Hillary sketch on Saturday Night Live? Tina Fey really nailed her impression of Palin. It was great!

GOOD NEWS. McCain has peaked. Obama is going to win. "Its The Ecomomy, Stupid." I don't want to wish for bad times, but with Lehman bankrupt, Merril Lynch selling to B of A to avoid the same fate, AIG in trouble, the Fannie and Freddie bailouts and the seeming collaspse of confidence in Wall St., the economy becomes the one and only issue that voters will pay any attention to. And the voters trust Obama on the economy over McCain.
I still say Biden brought nothing to the ticket. The VP is not a Secretary of State. But if I were looking for experience with foreign affairs and international relations I'd look no farther than Bill Richardson who would have been a much better choice than Biden because 1} he doesn't stick his foot in his mouth 2) he could help deliver New Mexico whis is an important swing state 3) he could help deliver other mountain states which are in play and 4) this election is all about IDENTITY POLITICS and he could help with the LATINO vote in every state. If it had to be a man, then it should have been Richardson. Also his ties to the Clintons would have helped to unify the party.
Thanks for the good words about Claire McCaskel. Missouri could be the game winner. Of course she would have been a better pick than Biden. I think that she was way underrated by the Obama people because they were too close to her. She has intelligence and charisma and would have been a perfect compliment to Obama. McCaskel on the Obama ticket would have made Palin look pathetic by comparison. Oh how I would have loved the McCaskel and Palin debate!

Let's don't count our chickens before they hatch. Obama is only a few points above McCain in the polls, and it's still neck & neck. It's dueces wild, and anybody's game. McCain's now play-acting like he's for regulation of banks, lending, etc. Many will take that bait. He and Palin are touting her husband's union membership, but McCain is as anti-worker, "contract 'em out", "let the foreigners own us" as Bush ever was. We've got to tell anyone who'll listen that a vote for McCain/Palin is a vote for finishing the flush-job on America. I predict Biden will mop the floor with Palin in the debates. We already know that Obama will outshine McCain in the debates.

Thank you COOLCHICK. Well said. Your comment made me recall the Dubai Ports scandal. I think that was the real turning point in Bush's popularity. That was the day that Republicans and independents started leaving him becaused they realized that he cared more about arab investmentments than he did about national security.
