Have you tried Bayer? It's systemic, and fertilizes at the same tiem, comes in a blue bottle. A lot easier because you don't have to spray or powder...

If you want to go all natural grind up banana peals and add them to the soil and/or plants marigolds or lavender close to them. The banana peals will fertilized and keep ground bugs away and the marigolds or lavender will keep away flying insects. Plus they look great planted around the base of the rose bushes and the lavender smells good too.

Does anyone know how to get rid of snails and grubs w/o chemicals? I live in Texas and the grubs eat all the bulbs. I have used banana peals and they do not work on grubs.

Diatomaceous earth- It's a ground up rock composed of sea creatures(diatoms and radiolarians) that make their skeletons from silicon. They are essentially made of glass. The microscopic shards have very sharp points and slugs/snails can't traverse it without severe damage. Make sure there are no hiding places near the base of the plant and sprinkle the D earth around the plant. Wind and water conditions will determine how often you'll need to re-apply it.

Grubs are a different matter. There are some bacterial/fungal applications that attack insect larvae (grubs)but delivering them on target can be difficult when the enemy lives underground. Your local Ag college can probably give you the best approach for your local pests.
I usually just rely on the old "pick and pinch". Done daily, it usually keeps infestations to a manageable level.

Thanks, I knew D earth was suppose to get rid of fleas on pets but did not know that it would work for snails. I'll try that.

Check my blog on "Roses and the care of them" My first advice is on how to rid your roses of afids. I dont know what kind of bugs you have, but maybe it will help. A touch of dish soap and water in a spray bottle. Its clean, and you dont have to keep doing it. My roses were free of bugs after that. Best of luck! Let me know how it goes.
I wouldnt want powder or BEER or anything that leaves a residue on my flowers. Do you?

I use a small plastic cup and bury it to ground level. I think the slugs and snails prefer Bud Light!
YES, it really works.

DO NOT use Sevin or any product containing carbaryl, its carciogenic. try some alternative products that contain spinosad, azadiractin, or potassium salts of fatty acids, they are safe and effective. the OMRI list is available online.

Ladybugs, they're a natural pest control, praying mantis is another beneficial insect. I'd recommend googleling Ladybugs and praying mantis to see more for yourself.
