I ripped out some old landscaping, only about 5 years old lol, and am going to start fresh. I never did like how it turned out the first time.

Gotta make a visit to Menards and get landscape fabric and some mulch though.

Oh...and gotta dig more sod out too..grunt work..lol..nice to finally be outside though.

Anybody have any big projects going?

weed fabric is a big mistake! Its an artificial solution to a complex biological system. It precludes amending your soil. It will inhibit the growth of plants that naturally spread over time. It will cause the soil to become sterile by the death of micro-organisms. Furthermore, in many case it will not stop the growth of weeds, which will just grow on top of the fabric.

I've been into the unlawn movement for some time. Currently, I'm looking for shade loving perennials. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in Advance,
Blanche

Blance, For my area Lenton rose blooms for me in January and is still blooming. Lily of the valley, bleeding hearts, hostas, some ferns, oxallis, some iris, and impatients have done well in my zone. I have a large area that I am amending the soil, clearing a slope, building an a small rock wall, and adding some winding pathways.I have several different statues with angels that I am trying to incoporate with the plants. I will be busy for quite sometime.

The beauty of Impatiens is that they reseed themselves the following year & actually act like "perennials". Especially in the absence of weed fabric.

I love all perennials for my yard and grow annuals like Zinnas and Cosmos and other types by saving the seeds. I have restructured my yard many times over the past 10 years, but after watching a lot of HGTV, I have a plan for my yard and am working on it. It encompasses decks, pergola, stone patio, pool, hot tub and fish pond all surrounded by beautiful plants. Now when I enjoy my yard, I can watch all kinds of butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and other birds. It is like a slice of heaven.

I hope you are not over-planting

AND finished, proud and relieved to say.

Made 3 above ground boxes to plant stuff in and actually got the seeds planted.

Come the fall, there will be potatoes, beans and peas. Not much, but it's this year's project.
cheers
