can you trim the tops of tomato plants, like the lead branch, to keep them from getting so tall, mine reach about 8 feet, and it is hard to keep them staked.

Morning, yes you can but it cuts down on # you get. Sounds like you have indeterminate type. Grows till something kills them. Like them myself, run up stock panel & dwn other side 10ft total.

I grow several different "In-determinates" and have found that just letting them "Sprawl" produces more fruit. I don't know why.
