Maybe some people are afraid of having to be a caretaker for you. I think this may be true with my brother. But, you will find that the ones who truly do care will be there for you even when you are going through a difficult time. I learned this lesson last year when I got really sick and thought no one cared about me. I found people that wanted to do whatever they could to make sure I got better and have become better friends as a result.

They don't know how to deal with something different. As a child I was always to not to stare at people w/disabilities. Kids can't control it, so the best thing they can do is ignore.
I had a neighbor who lost his legs in a car crash. When I stopped talk to him I had my 8 year with me. Her jaw dropped, because she never saw a person missing limbs. She asked "what happened to your legs?" The poor guy looked like he was holding back tears. I explained to her that its rude to ask that question, especially of a persob who you don't know. A lot of parents (including mine) would probably not tried to be friends with him and they would have slapped and said "Don't stare!"
By now people should understand that disabled people are not freaks and deserve to be treated like anyone-- just have common sense-- something else now missing in society.

I agree with this... although I personally don't mind a child's
curiosity about my hearing loss. It is amazing how accepting
children can be when you draw them close to you. Maybe this is the
way to help the next generation be more understanding

If my disabilities were visible, I wouldn't mind someone asking, especially if they were genuinely curious. It's amazing how compassionate people CAN be once they understand your story.

Take it this way, dear. There are some people who just don't know what to say. There are some people who wants to understand by asking rude questions/statements or stare. There are some people who are intimidated. Many, many reasons but it's VERY important for you to remember this........what do YOU think of YOU with your disability? If not good, then work on it. If good.......good for you because you don't need to worry about others around you. This is YOUR life! Enjoy it!

I am a caregiver for adults with DD.
I find that people who do not have any medical disabilities are often the disabled ones. They take life for granted on so many levels.
The people I take care of really have shown me how lucky I am and how beautiful life is!
We ALL have a purpose and reason for being here. Maybe its tobteach people how to live or maybe its to learn and see the beauty of life.
All peopke strugle with self identity and peer acceptance.
People are complicated, and life can seem challenging. But there is so much beauty in the world, and inside other people.
Try not to focus on what you dont gave, and dont compair your self to anyone else. Because you are one of a kind, and embrass the fact there is no one else like you.
Live your own life!
Live
Love
And Learn
Our time here is only a blink of an eye

Buy one of these
and make them look at you differently
I own 5 different sword canes, the one in the photo is my favorite. The handle is solid steel, so you can knock them out and the blade inside is razor sharp. To help you get your point across

My sword canes make me feel like james bond, or something. They actually have one available where you push a button n the blade pops out the end. That would really make me feel like bond, but its $189 and I'm not that willing to feel like a spy

I don't know. We should never look down on ANYONE, but instead we should build eachother up and encourage eachother to be the best we can be in life.
