Describe your favorite philosopher and why. I maybe repeating my profile, but Thoreau; gave up everything to live a simpler life. Isn't that what life should be; gather your thoughts and not always rush for that next material.

Then we should value what life is meant to be; how much should we accomplish during our short time here!

I think modern era, Noam Chomsky. His insight seems to resonate with me.
Some others I read frequently...Ann Rand, Aristotle, Nietzsche, Morrison, Locke.

There's no one area to pin point as to why I like one or the other. They all wrote words that carry significant truths.

It changes. I like to contemplate St. Augustine as much as Nietzsche for some reason, but basically I am a phenomenologist so I like Husserl, Sarte, Heidegger and presently going back over Merleau-Ponty. Also Karl Popper, and because of Obama, Reinhold Niebuhr. I like your question - and Thoreau also.

Phenomenology deals with consciousness, how it is formed, how what you see outside gets on your mind and determines who you are. Lots of human freedom is involved. I love philosophy but don't quite understand it. It would be interesting to devote time to learning calculus to make that leap of faith Newton and Leibniz took and I would have a better view.

Marx Critique on Kapitalism gets read pretty often by me. Slavoj Žižek is a modern person who expounds on this thought. BFORE I get labelled a socialist or Marxist I'm prolly the most exploitive capitalistic person you'll ever meet.

All German philosophy is interesting to me during this period to be honest. Just finish JS Mill.

Occam's razor

Because to limit yourself to human contentment is the only way to be happy, beyond that is not reachable because whatever we learn becomes human understanding and I don't perceive further evolution than what we have achieved.

With that, brain in a vat theory is a nice dream and Achilles never out racing the tortoise becomes everyday life

While reading I discovered John Paul II was a believer in the philosophy of phenomenology, falling under the title of 'personalism'...which I very much believe after investigating it's content and thought.

You really wonder with some responses how some people can even
get their assets out of bed in the morning without direction.
I guess if all you ever read is the comics or excuse me look
at the pictures you limit your mind. A mind is a terrible
thing to waste. This is such a true statement.
