That's a wide open question,
but if you just want a good
drinking wine at a fair price
I always go to Yellow Tail Cabernet...

It's a couple of steps up from
the offerings of Ernest and Julio..

Start with Blue Nun, a nice german white wine that tastes good and is easy on the stomach.
Ask your friends, maybe sme of them drink wine and can give you pointers.
Each person has their own tastes.

Friend of mine wound up passed out in my spare bedroom after drinking Tempranillo. It's a nice fruity yet dry red with medium body that she found irresistible.

Some of the less expensive wines are really good as well. Arbor Mist wines are really yummy. Blackberry is my favorite. But I make my own wine and beer and when visiting my grannie help her make the moonshine.

no... arbor mist is not good wine..lol those are fru fru wines for beginners who think wines should taste sweet..

good wines should taste "dry"..meaning not very sweet...

wines are best enjoyed w/ food and after the meal..wine makes the food taste better..food makes the wine taste better..

all good wines are around 12-14 percent alcohol..theyre pretty much all the same alcohol content..

try a grilled steak or pot roast with a cabernet from sonoma or napa CA..slightly chilled..30 mins in the fridge..

I, personally, am partial to sweet dessert wines. Dry wines taste to me like vinegar. I don't drink very often except with meals. By the way, I was raised in LaPlace, and I still have family there. Hi.

I'm a wino and could offer some suggestions if I knew just a little more about what you are looking for.
What have you tried? What have you liked and why? What have you not liked and why?

Maybe the best way to get into drinking wine is to cook with it. Find a recipe that includes wine in the ingredients. Most of those recipes will specify a type of wine. Also, the color of the wine should be taken into account. If you're cooking something red, you'll usually use red wine. If it is a lighter color, the recipe usually calls for white wine. After you measure out the amount that you need, pour yourself a glass.

I've tried beer on cereal but not wine. I would try a semi sweet white with cheerios.

If you've never tried wine why would you think any of it is bitter? I can't think of any wines that taste bitter to me.

I prefer a semi dry wine if I am having it with dinner. However, girls night is all about the sweet bubbly champagne type that is high in alcohol.

I buy the dry wine to cook with and you never cook with a wine you would not drink.

Arbor Mist. They make that crap in Upstate NY. That's boones farm in a fancy bottle. I don't even think that classifies as wine.

Personally I like Pinot Grigio's Merlots and Chardonays. All of which are looked down upon by wine snobs, but at least they ain't Arbor Mist.

If you don't like dry and bitter tastes and want sweet then I really don't think your going to like wine. At least not any of the good stuff. I'd recommend the cheap sweet crap like Arbor Mist.

Anyone interested in drinking wine may want to consider taking a tour of some local, or nearby, wineries. Most ofter storefronts and galleries where one may sample the different types of wines their vinyard produces. This is a fun adventure with quality time spent with a friend or significant other, a learning experience, an appreciation of wines one may not usually buy at the liquor store, and a cheap afternoon buzz.

Enjoy the tour. And most wineries sell their wines to the public.

For sweet red wines, go for a White Zinfandel, White Merlot or any sweet red. Sutter Home and Beringer makes a nice White Merlot that I know that you'd enjoy.

For sweet whites, go for a Chablis or a Riesling. Fish Eye Sweet Riesling would be right up your alley. Gallo makes a good sweet Chardonnay around the holidays that is very nice.

"White" Merlot and "White" Zinfandel are not red wines; Lambrusco might be a sweet wine to start with or maybe a cheap beaujolais slightly chilled.

Not sure you do. It's called White Merlot because it is not red like regular Merlot.

Merlot is a red grape and produces red wines when the skins are left in during fermentation. When the skins are removed before or during fermentation the result is a rose or blush wine; it's not as dark as it would have been if the skins were left in through the entire process. The deepness of color depends on how long the must was macerated before skins were extracted.

Cheers!

This is exactly what I meant. Just couldn't break it down at that time during work. When I said that it's as red as you can get, I meant exactly what you typed, for this wine to be labeled "white" it sure is red/crimson in color. That Beringer White Merlot is just as red as a regular Merlot.

I love Bolla and Fetzer Merlots but I'm starting to really enjoy that white Merlot. The only sweet wine I do enjoy with the addition of the Gallo Sweet Chardonnay.

I agree with you but everybody is at different levels of their experience and taste for certain wines. I like dry red wines but when I started drinking wine I was a big White Zin drinker and now it seems too sweet. A good cheap red is Foxhorn's Malbec and does seam to have a nice kick.
