I would think if you act professionally you will draw professionals towards you. Of course you need to be surrounded by professionals for this to work. Your summary introduction saves me from having to read the book.

Getting a processional man really isn't any different from getting any other guy ... you basically have to have a connection with them and have some of the same interests which always helps

I to not beleive dressing is how to obtain a person with a professional background.. It is intellegence first and foremost. Anyone can buy clothes, but one must have brain cells and seek knowledge to have intellengence.

I met an engineer (with 3 master's degrees) at my son's baseball game. Funny as it was, I was I was "choreographing" a ice skating routine for my daughter and her best friend...so I was half dancing by myself to music that no one else could hear(MP3 player and earbuds). I must have looked like a half looney bird but wasn't worried about it because I didn't know anyone there (and the routine needed to be put together). After the game, he came up and asked me out because I looked like a "fun" person. (I personally am fairly sure that "looney" was probably a better adjective...) Professionals are no different than "ordinary" people.

Why would anyone set their sights to "getting a professional man"? That sounds like a conniving, golddigging female, to me.

I think dating a professional person (in my opinion) is not about finding a guy with a ton of money. It's about finding someone who is as accomplished as you are. I have my bachelors degree, I'm going back to school in the fall for my masters and I work at a software company in the Bay Area. I'm doing very well for myself, but it's hard to find guys who are of the same caliber as me. I'm always getting hit on by these guys who show off their money in pictures, smoke weed, don't have a steady job, no education, cant hold a decent conversation, have no ambitions or goals, don't dress well, etc. I am looking for someone who is as accomplished as I am, because I deserve someone like that. I don't want to reach below myself, but I want to reach above or at the same level. So it has nothing to do with gold digging and being conniving. It's just finding someone that you're compatible with on all levels of your life.

But I am curious to know what the phrase "dating a professional" means to everyone else. I feel like my definition is valid (of course), but not sure about everyone else's.

A professional man? Really? How low and eager has society made people? We all seek love with a person who will be our partner for the rest of our lifes, the heart shouldn't be mislead by materialistic things. I understand there is people who want a partner as succesful as them but that shouldnt be our main focus, it should depend on quality not quanity, respect not pay check, love not materials, I might not be the richest man or most succesful but dammit Im a great man with a huge heart, sorry degrees and money wont love you.

A partner that is there for you and you for them no matter what. That is something that money can not buy. A partner doesn't always need to have a degree. Does it take a degree to bring me product that I may of run out of at a show? No. Does it take a degree to be home for the kids? No. If you brake down. Does it take a degree for someone to bring you some tools or a ride to the parts house? No. Does it take a degree to sign a paper to accepts a delivery while one is out doing a job? No. Answer the phone while the other is occupied with a customer? No. This list can go on and on.

Now it does take someone with a brain yes.

Value can not just be measured by someones degrees. I can't count the number of folks I have known that their degree now is only worth wiping their rear ends. There is so much more to take into consideration, and I must say that the number one word in my opinion that comes to mind......... Team.

Is that true for men? I don't think it works that way for women. Many professional women I know have mentioned that it's primarily construction workers, truck drivers, etc. who approach them. My own experience matched that while I was working downtown and dressing the part, traveling to New York, etc. Since I've been working at home and favoring pony tails and sweatshirts, I've received much more attention from professional men.

I agree and disagree with the last few posts. I agree that yes, love is more than degrees and money, but in my original post, I never said that a guy had to have a degree or a ton of money (I know I'm making this a little personal, but its the only way i cant truly describe my opinions). I'm looking for a man who holds himself well, acts like he wasn't raised in the hood, (even though he may have been) iis intelligent, has some dreams, ambitions and goals in life. I don't care how big his heart is, but if ur an idiot that doesn't know what he wants in life and has no dreams, I can't get with that. It is a HUGE turn off when a guy is so unmotivated and indecisive. To me, a professional man is not indecisive or unmotivated and he has ambitions and goals and dreams. Educated men, tend to have these traits. Not all, but some do and it's a proven fact. People who are properly educated, tend to successfully achieve their goals, and are more open minded. That's the kind of man that I want, so I like it when a guy has an education, but it's not required. So no, degrees and money won't love you, but there is nothing wrong with trying to look for a professional man who carries himself well and has a good head on his shoulders.

And to the poster above, you said that your professional female friends always get hit on by construction workers, etc, I think it's because they see that your professional friends are more than just some regular woman, but they have their head on right and are going places. So i ask those men who frown upon a woman looking for a professional man, why is it ok for a man to want to look for a professional woman but a woman can't look for a professional man?

I don't think there's anything wrong with being picky and setting standards for yourself. If you're worth it, then go for it!!!

There is someone for everyone I'm sure a felon out on work release may equally be a nice person but we just want what we want. You have no merit to tell a person to stopping wanting the type of man they are attrached to. If she wants a professional man that's a preference and that's alright. Who is to say she's not in it for love. You can't truly love a man who makes a little more?

The problem with marrying a man based on his profession is that he is NOT his profession. Life happens and he may change jobs/career paths along the way for many reasons. Pick a man you actually like and you stand a lot better chance of lasting for the long haul and surviving any bumps that life puts in the road.

I mean a doctor or a lawyer that specializes in serving the underserved community and does a lot of pro bono work is STILL a professional. If you are looking for a man who makes above average money, I might focus on trained tradesmen anyway. It is my experience that quite a few of these men easily make 6 figures a year when they chose to put in the overtime hours.

With profession comes sacrifice . Like my job I drive truck home everyday but am on call 24/7 . Work anywhere from 12 plus hours . The company I work for hauls water , drill mud , drill waste in and out for drill rigs . Some guys have been on drill sites as long as 30 plus hours on some jobs . Most women don't want there guy away like that and that's why I'm no longer married . Never mind they like to spend that $2,000 a week pay check . What I'm saying is if you want a professional guy you have to be willing to make some sacrifices and deal with the hours they work to give you a good life .

You can't tell me that any women wants any less in a man. The OP is a young
women who is searching in the right direction. No women wants a man who is
not responsible enough to take care of his own self. That person is a reflection
of us. I personally want a man who puts God first. I may offend people who are
non-religious but I am and want that in a partner. We like people to be like us.
I have college degrees. Everyone has priorities.

If you are interested in a real genius you might try volunteering where they might be, the psychiatric ward.

Get a rope and take one for a walk on a day pass. If he escapes he wasn't meant for you, on the other hand he may enjoy your companionship in which case you've got him.

Come on up - they give me day passes (supervised of course).

A reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan to a pretty girl seeking a rich husband

A young and pretty lady posted this on a popular forum:

Title: What should I do to marry a rich guy?

I’m going to be honest of what I’m going to say here.
I’m 25 this year. I’m very pretty, have style and good taste. I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above.
You might say that I’m greedy, but an annual salary of $1M is considered only as middle class in New York.
My requirement is not high. Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary? Are you all married?
I wanted to ask: what should I do to marry rich persons like you?
Among those I’ve dated, the richest is $250k annual income, and it seems that this is my upper limit.
If someone is going to move into high cost residential area on the west of New York City Garden(?), $250k annual income is not enough.
I’m here humbly to ask a few questions:

1) Where do most rich bachelors hang out? (Please list down the names and addresses of bars, restaurant, gym)
2) Which age group should I target?
3) Why most wives of the riches are only average-looking? I’ve met a few girls who don’t have looks and are not interesting, but they are able to marry rich guys.
4) How do you decide who can be your wife, and who can only be your girlfriend? (my target now is to get married)
Ms. Pretty

A philosophical reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan:

Dear Ms. Pretty,
I have read your post with great interest. Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyse your situation as a professional investor.
My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I’m not wasting time here.
From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you. The answer is very simple, so let me explain.
Put the details aside, what you’re trying to do is an exchange of “beauty” and “money” : Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square.
However, there’s a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year, but you can’t be prettier year after year.
Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciation asset, and you are a depreciation asset. It’s not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worse 10 years later.
By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a “trading position”.
If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term - same goes with the marriage that you wanted. It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or “leased”.
Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool; we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.

Hope this reply helps.

signed,
J.P. Morgan CEO

Perhaps you are in the wrong group. This group is for single professionals.

To answer the question. I believe a professional man would prefer someone who has similar interests with or at the very least interested in what he has to say. Powerful men like to be heard. Whether you are a woman who equally has power is unimportant to this type of man he would like you to respect him for who he is and what he has become or becoming. Being a good listener is really important too.

Sadly our times didn't line up for a match. But be of good cheer I've met a few half-mad men close to your age.
