This year, before my tablet broke, I treated myself to a quick reading of Nora Roberts and was quite satisfied with the light and easy reading of the three brothers rebuilding a historic, ghost occupied hotel in the New England town. Not normally a fan of romances, I wanted to see what elements a popular writer has. Accessible, good quick character sketches and non-violent, small intrigue. The book was "The Next Always" and is first of a trilogy. I think reading it was even more satisfying than watching TV.

My sister always has a romance novel and refuses to use the tablet I bought her. What are some of your favorite romance novelist and what are their best books?

Yes, I have read those authors . My favorite.romance is Jane Eyre. If I had to choose one from the list it would be LaVyrle Spencer.

"Spencer is known for creating realistic characters and stories that focus on families rather than only the relationship between a man and woman. These "ordinary" men and women are warm and vulnerable and are always portrayed sympathetically. Her heroines tend to be a mix of fire and warmth, strength, savvy and soft–heartedness who must overcome some sort of adversity, such as pregnancy, divorce, a lengthy separation, the loss of a loved one, and then undergo a catharsis. The stories center on themes of abiding love, family ties and strength in difficult times. "

Same here with a few exceptions. You forgot to add Diana Gabaldon lol. I have over 1000 unabridged audio books. Have a special room for them with book shelves from ceiling to floor. The more detailed the sex the better the book. In most cases exception would be Nicholas Sparks dang that man is a awesome writer. I would only let myself listen to one book a year now I will not listen to any of his. I do not think he has any that have a happy ending. I cry so hard when I listen to his books they tear at my heart. So I have stopped. No happy ending I do not listen to them anymore. Yes I listen to them all over and over. By the time I am done with them the year is over and can start over again or add new ones to my collection. The good thing about audio books is you can listen while you work.

Janet Dailey (The Rogue) and Lyrle Spenser (all of them). Lyrle has retired and (J. Dailey) was slapped sensless and basically thrown into the bread line for copying Nora Roberts.

How about William Shakespeare, author of "Romeo and Juliet"? I played Friar Lawrence in a stageplay production of it when I was in college. There are a lot of subtleties in R&J, just like there are in all of Shakespeare's writings.

Did you know that Romeo was on the rebound when he met Juliet? He was infatuated with a girl named Rosalyn who wouldn't give him the time of day.

Main theme of R&J (a personal opinion only)--don't ever do anything overly hastily, even if what you are doing is a good idea. Friar Lawrence's determintion to bring peace to the warring Montagues and Capulets led to his officiating at Romeo and Juliet's wedding a little faster than prudence should have dicated.
