Let's say you've been seeing someone. For even about two months, you've been intimate and stayed over each others homes every now and then. Now you and whoever you're with feel pretty comfortable with each other after some time. This person has allergies and tries to fight it when he/she comes over. Now you've decided for them to move in but they said you must get rid of your cat or dog. Would you?

NOPE, NEVER. That is why there is allergy meds and shots for. If someone truly wants to be a part of your life they will have to learn to deal with and accept your pets if you have any. That's how it all starts, first get rid of your pets then you can't do this, you have to do that, and so on.

I'm from NY and I'm not stupid! First off, I wouldn't get myself in that situation. It's either the ring or nothing. If the allergies were a problem, I'd tell the man to see an allergy specialist. There are ways of controlling allergies.

I can't I love my cat way to much to ever be parted from her she helps me when I'm sad. I love my man too very much I'm just glad he is not allergic it would be hard on me to have to deal with this issue thank god I don't have too.

Never! Adoption is forever.
My sister's husband is allergic to cats and he takes a pill every once in a while.
But I think you are asking if something really forced us to part with a pet.
When I lost my apartment to a fire, my cat and I stayed in a hotel. My biggest fear was being homeless once Red Cross stopped paying. Not for myself, but for my cat. The thought of losing her and never knowing if she is loved by someone else or neglected, was too much to handle. I found us an apartment, thank God.
Like the saying goes, "where there's a will, there is a way". I think we all could find a way. If someone actually told me I "MUST" get rid of my cat, I would say goodbye to him. Anyone that cold, I would never want to be a part of my life.

Ex husband said he loved my two cats and two dogs. After wedding he said get rid of them and put 76 yr old mom in nursing home or he would not move in as agreed.
Everything he said was a lie.
Still have original family while he is now ex.
When Dixie,Tiger,Coco and Buffy became part of the family, it became a lifetime commitment. A family is not only made of relatives; but of those you love, take care of and love and take care of you ; human or otherwise. Sadly not everyone understands this.

I knew a guy once that was jealous over my dog. He even cried because my dog got to sleep in my bed and he didn't. I barely knew him. I picked up my dog in front of him and gave her a kiss on the head. I told him he knows how to drive and to take off down the raod. Muff was a 5 pound shitzu...

Never! I have in the past passssssed on some great places at decent rent because I had pets. To me, like many of you, they are family. It's a package deal and I also make it known currently that if I move to a single home with backyard, I again want to foster or maybe adopt a dog or 2 who arn't wanted elsewhere. Being upfront from the start is how I roll. Dealbreakers don't hurt either of you much if you arn't yet feeling strong emotions for 1 another. I wouldn't wait 2 months, would bring it into conversation at the start.

Never...I've seen the pain in the eyes of pets that people dump for whatever reason...these animals don't understand why they have been abandoned..many to certain death.
I would never do that and can't understand how so many can be so unfeeling.

Nope, I would not give up a pet for someone, especially if they knew going into the relationship that you had the pet. That's one of the first signs of an abuser. Control.
Been there and done that, so I do know firsthand.

No. They are all God sends to me and each cat is different in how they behave. Many seniors should have at least one pet. They are such great companions.

I agree. Pets lower blood pressure, tending to their care helps Seniors feel needed, and their love and affection (unlike humans) is unconditional.

No way!!!!! I brought my pet(s) into my life. They are not machines. Animals have feelings. Just as a person has a child so it's a package deal, that's how I fel about my boys, 3 cats.
