Nurses at all levels should be proud. I have my BS in Social Work and Nursing. I went thru a CNA class then LPN school then got my BS as an RN. I have been a nurse 25 years.
I have been in the ambulance, ER, OR, Neuro, Ortho, PEDS, Adults, Psych, Home Health,
Travel Nursing and the Last job was Correctional Nursing. I loved it all. It is a great
area because your experience travels with you.

One of the many reasons I love this vocation is the ability to touch the mind, heart, body and soul. We can leave a type of specialty to engage in another and never leave the profession.

I find a great let down with reading today. Reading is one way I unwind, look for inspiration and find peace. I look for things that speak to my soul, things I can bring to the profession.

Some great words of wisdom as well as soul touching thoughts I'd like to share from a Doctor that lived in the early 1900's and I hope you find them as inspiring as I did.

Remember that you have to deal not only with the bodies but also with the moaning souls coming to you. How many suffering people you will more easily soothe by advising and going straight to their souls, instead of giving cool prescriptions to be given to the chemist!

Let us daily practice charity. God is love. He who loves is in God and God in him. Let us never forget to offer every day, nay, every moment, our actions to God, doing all things for love.

In a letter of 1926 he says: "Blessed are we doctors, often unable to remove illness, blessed are we if we remember that we have in the presence of sick people, not only bodies to cure, but also divine and eternal souls, and we must love them as ourselves".

Sick people are Jesus Christ's creatures. Many wicked people, criminals, swearers, find themselves in a hospital by God's mercy, he wants them to be saved! Nuns, doctors and nurses that work in a hospital have a mission: cooperating with this endless mercy, helping, forgiving and sacrificing themselves."

"Remember that, following Medicine, you undertook upon yourself the responsibility of a teachings always in your memory, with love and pity for the abandoned, with faith and enthusiasm, deaf to praises and criticisms, to envy, inclined only to God."

This Holy Doctors writings are inspiring to me and I felt compelled to share them, his name is Joseph Moscati.

I think sometimes as nurses we have a deeper intuitiveness into patient need, regardless the responsibility we have been entrusted with is great!

NICU RN..love love love it .
Thinking about doing travel nursing soon. Not sure about the job opportunities/varieties for lpn's. in my area they are mostly working in nursing homes or dr's offices . Seems like there's a shift away from lpn's in the big hospitals other than for tech positions. Now there's also a push for RN's to get their BSN or MA, if they don't already have them.

I would love it, if the experienced nurses would share their status, tips, and their stories to be well informed-and aware... Thanks

I am a student nurse. I finished my first semester. I did horribly to be honest, but I learned a lot from my experiences. I don't have any problems studying and putting the time to study. It's the hands on experience and the clinical that I need to work on. My advice to other nursing students, stick with your buddies in nursing school, adapt your study skills to nursing, deal with stress properly, take care of yourself and be professional. Get along with all others, especially your instructor, and never say or do something you will regret. Always keep the patients in mind. Smile and be super nice, cause trust me it will help you out in nursing school.

Great advice. Regarding the smile and being nice. More patients have dealt with illness far better with a warm word, or a quiet presence at the bedside than a hurried attitude and a pill.

But this will take some sacrifice as you adhere to a crazy and endless schedule of 'things to do'.

Organization is a skill you will learn, not within school, but on the job. And it is priceless.

Ask questions , admit it when you need help. Sometimes new nurses are afraid of looking stupid if they're "drowning." Don't be afraid to ask for help

About NURSES: Somebody asked: "You're a nurse? That's cool, I wanted to do that when I was a kid. How much do you make?" The nurse replied: "HOW MUCH DO I MAKE?" ... I can make holding your hand seem like the most important thing in the world when you're scared. ... I can make your child breathe when they stop. ... I can help your father survive a heart attack. ... I can make myself get up at 5 a.m. to make sure your mother has the medicine she needs to live. ... I work all day to save the lives of strangers. ... I make my family wait for dinner until I know your family member is taken care of. ... I make myself skip lunch so that I can make sure that everything I did for your wife today is charted. ... I make myself work weekends and holidays because people don't just get sick Monday thru Friday. ... Today, I might save your life. ... How much do I make? All I know is, I make a difference. Re-post not only if you are a nurse or you love a nurse, but most importantly, re-post this if you respect their work.

Any one want to give their interpretation of the difference between respiratory failure vs respiratory distress.

NO this is not a trick question, if you google you will find quite a few interpretations, so is there a difference and what do you say?

Hi,
I began my nursing career as a LPN and I was able to get into a facility that had numerous doctors offices in it. I loved it! I did a lot of pediatrics. Mostly I floated and broadened my career by training in 25 different departments. So another option other than LTC and HH is MD offices.

yeah true. They do have clinical rotations even if its online. Which as we all can attest clinicals as a nursing student are tantamount to babysitting patients instead of actually providing real care most of the time...

Absolutely my LPN intership/final clinical rotation the CNA's dumped their work on us instead of the nurses teaching us...

I so badly want to be a nurse. I have taken all the prerequisites possible that can be taken before being in the program. I have applied to the nursing program several times and keep being turned down. I have a 3.89 grade point. I already have a worthless associates degree as a medical assistant and have been doing that for 13 years. I finally just stopped applying and went full time as an MA.

Nursepurple hi.
Im also a correctional nurse for 4 years. Stressful. Not liking it this month! Lol. Overtime-mandatory! I've also done a variety of nursing but corrections was great until recently. Its not the inmates, the job itself is basic nursing, and my shifts are days/evenings. Its management! Scheduling 12 days without day off. New boss that's not a nurse. She's a medical records tech. No idea how to make a schedule. Have me looking for a way out. Any advice. Is it just a slump? If so, have you ever been there?
