At the start of something new, it's easy to overlook the little things. That’s because genuine attraction, excitement or just the fact you’re getting laid can blind any man to the warning signs that she’ll break your heart and, therefore, the relationship is doomed from the start.

With most relationships destined for failure, it makes sense to be selective and end them before too much time and energy has been invested. For your benefit, we’ve devised an early warning system; here are 10 signs that she’ll break your heart.

Number 10
She has no long-term friends
The girl's a social chameleon, moving from one group of interesting people to the next, and she's always off making new friends. She sounds exciting, right?

Sure, but you won't be around long enough to find out. If she has no real friends, the kind who have known her for years, it means two things: Either there are major reasons why no one sticks around very long or she craves constant change. Neither is good for a budding romance and both are obvious signs she’ll break your heart.

Number 9
She’s a dating newbie
If you’re looking for a relationship, being with someone new to the dating world is not what you want. She might be much younger than you or simply really inexperienced, but if you're on a different dating page, you won't be together for long.

All that naivety might be cute at first, but it will grow to irritate you. And despite all the possible benefits of hooking up with someone without any baggage, she probably doesn't know what she's looking for in a guy. There's a chance it's not you, which makes this one of the hardest signs she’ll break your heart to swallow.

Number 8
She needs a lot of space
She's a free spirit and hates to be fenced in. When you started dating she let you know she needed room to do her own thing and she set limits on how long she spends with you or how often she stays over. And if you stick to this, the relationship might work out.

However, it won't. Someone who likes their own time and space this much will tire of anyone that takes it up. Before you know it, you're down to seeing her once a week and you’re seeing this as one of the big signs she’ll break your heart.

Number 7
She played hard to get for too long
You chased her for months, and she played a push-pull game when you called her, sent flowers or made romantic gestures. She finally agreed to go out with you, which means you won her over, right?

Wrong. There's playing hard to get and there's simply not interested. What has happened here is she needed a quick ego boost to pick her up and she went for the one person who will flatter and fawn over her all night. Once her self-esteem returns, you're gone. Signs she’ll break your heart don’t get much clearer.

Number 6
She’s a dreamer
Some people are never satisfied with what they have. While having high standards and ambition can be attractive traits, if she is hell-bent on fulfilling unrealistic expectations, your chances don’t look good.

It might be money, fame, a new life or the perfect relationship she craves, but they are all signs she’ll break your heart when something better comes along.

Number 5
She finds you embarrassing
Meeting a new girl's friends and family for the first time can be an intimidating experience and it might feel like a relief to dodge the bullet. After all, you're dating her not them. Why does it matter if you meet her pals?

Then again, why doesn't she want to show you off? We've all done it; we’ve been with someone who was a bit too embarrassing to introduce to our friends, so we kept them in the background and didn't let the guys meet her. Well, now you’re the male equivalent of that overweight, dorky chick.

Number 4
She has no significant ex
Getting with a girl who has never had a long-term relationship could seem ideal: There’s no expectations of you living up to what “her one true love” did for her or worries that he’ll come walking back into her life. She’s a blank canvas, which you can make into the perfect girlfriend.

However, a girl whose entire dating resume reads of two-week flings isn’t likely to change that for you. She probably has a very good reason for having never had a real relationship -- she doesn't want to. And it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to change that.

Number 3
She has deep-rooted problems
Everybody has issues. None of us are perfect and we all have flaws in our personality that we have to work on. However, you do come across people who seem to be more “issue” than “personality.”

Be it problems with alcohol, drugs, sex, abandonment issues or gambling, if there's something in her life that you’re always second place to, this relationship is not going to last long. It might not sound noble, but you deserve better than being her crutch and you should walk out.

Number 2
She has close relationships with exes
If you meet a girl that is able to stay good friends with her exes, it might seem like a good thing. It hints that she’s mature and does not go through rough breakups. At the very least, you know she doesn’t always turn into some kind of she-demon if things don’t work out.

In reality, it's a definite sign she'll damage you. This is a girl who easily switches from viewing you as lover to treating you as friend. The fact that she finds men so disposable means that she never really builds up strong relationships anyway.

Number 1
She already had a man when she met you
The two of you hooked up when she was dating another guy. You might think, “OK, a bit wrong but from here we’ll do things properly.” No, things will never be proper with this relationship. A cheat is always a cheat.

When she starts to mention the new guy at work everyday, when she stays out late with the girls for a few extra drinks or wants to have a little more time to herself, you can bet she’s already working on your replacement. And if she isn’t, the thoughts that she is will turn the relationship sour.
