Contemporary American landscape design is inferior grade because designs are based on inflating profitability, rather than legitimate criteria, such as aesthetics, functionality, or sustainability. By applying the principles of Chinese design to our gardens, we can grow something meaningful with positive energy that improves our live's aspirations.

Trees & shrubs that are butch pruned, merely because they were mispositioned without enough space, are sources of negative energy. Many homes are totally surrounded by such negativity. The best solution is demolition

Symmetry is replaced by yin & yang, which is a better expression of balance. Nature is asymmetrical

I am not one to bulldoze. Trees & shrubs are dug by hand & an unbreakable shovel helps, as does an axe & heavy duty loopers. Some shrubs transplant well, such azaleas & gardenias; other shrubs will not transplant at all, like india hawthorne; other plants are best mercy killed, like ligustrum.

Nuisance plants are high priority for demolition. Nuisance plants are plants that do not behave themselves in landscapes &/or are high maintenance nightmares: Wisteria, Ligustrum, Eleagnus, Chameleon Plant, English Ivy, even lawns. Lawns are NOT green, environmentally correct, because they require regular maintenance & chemical applications. Most yards have too much lawn, so the more lawn that is demolished, the better. People are wasting their resources by growing lawns instead of vegetable gardens & fruit trees. I will dig your entire lawn up, shovel by shovel-full. Again bulldozers suck

Mass-planting is not the secret to landscape design, nor is instantaneous gratification, or designing on paper
Anyone trying to sell to you a design on paper is a scam artist.
The first step of design is planting a specimen centerpiece

I had a lot of rocks in my "new ground" but I cleared them all away and tossed them into a pile ... made a wonderful backdrop for the garden pond and fountain area.

An example would be when growing tomatoes, incorporate various italian herbs in close proximity, basil for instance repells mosquitos from tomato plants AND both are used in spaghetti.

A yard is best divided into 8 sectors: front, back, near side, far side, & 4 corners. I like to think of these as 8 separate gardens, corresponding to the 8 main aspirations of Life:
1. South: Reputation/Fame
2. SW: Romance/Relationships
3. West: Creativity/Children
4. NW: Mentorship/Travel
5. North: Career
6. NE: Knowledge
7. East: Health
8. SE: Wealth

I like to plant flowers to be visible and prominently framed by looking out the windows, is that good feng shui?
Absolutely, especially if the window is circular, like a Moon Gate
