Yeah, I know it's something mostly older women do but I love to quilt in the cooler months. Mostly appliqué work in batiks. Hand piecing, stain glass work.

Anyone else into it?

I guess there are no quilters out there. Sounds like making stained glass would be a blast!

I've quilted since I was 17. I don't get much time lately to work on any. I do some restoration work too. It's a shame how little appreciation the art of quilting gets anymore.

No, quilting is nor an old ladies work. I always wanted to learn this skill and for some reason or another I never could take the classes...until today. My first class in quilting was today. i also started to learn beading...another skill I always wanted to master. Today, I also took my first class in this art.
Nothing like to be retired to start to have fun.

BTW, I already made a necklace and a pair of earrings

I learned from helping my wife, she made quilts and blankets for hospice patients. After her passing I finished 40+ that she had in work. Mostly tops that were already sewn together. I also finished 150 Teddy Bears we had cut out of fleece. It made me feel I was completing her mission.

I Quilt and make baby cloths.

I come from a large family and we have had several new additions over the last few months. I have been quilting baby blankets for everyone.

I have recently gotten a few requests for larger blankets.

I find it relaxing. I don't usually use a pattern. if I do it is of my own design.

the most recent that I am working on is an "under the sea" paper pieced quilt for my nephew due at the end of the month.

Foxxy1948, It will not be the final chapter. Right now, I'm sitting under a quilt I made for my mother a couple years before she passed. It reminds me of her & the fun we had picking out the fabrics together. I feel wrapped in her love every time I crawl under it.
Go ahead, finish the quilt, I bet you'll find yourself remembering all the good times the two of you had together & how much he loved you, every time you see it on your bed.

I have a quilt that I started when I was married... many moons ago... I had fun with my sister-in-law picking out the fabric, but stopped working on it. I should finish it and move on to the next one I guess. There's a new quilting store down the road from my office, maybe I'll check them out and start quilting again.

I would have to agree that quilting isn't just for old ladies. I love quilting and have for most of my life.Nothing fancy though. I wish I knew how to make the amazing quilts my grandmother made.
By the way...I'm straight.

I've always liked the red flannel with ducks that used to be a common sleeping bag liner. I also use flannel for the bottom side of my quilts.
Ideas? Trains, fish, wildlife, cars, motorcycles, rockets, planes, etc. Boys are easy!

I am a 4th generation quilter. Used to be a co-owner of a quilt shop. I know a lot of people might think that 33 is young for quilting but I love it

As a quilter with a large stash of fabric and unfinished projects, I think it awesome that you finished that many items. My late husband appreciated my quilts and would ask me to make ones for different people, but he always teasingly said he would just put the fabric out on the street for anyone to pick up if I went first.

again, kudos!

Thanks for the kudos. I still have a large stash of fabric, batting and yarn. I can't seem to let go of it. Sometimes I think I'll find someone who will enjoy and appreciate it as much as she did, othertimes I feel like maybe I'm hoping for too much.

All in good time I suppose.

I ended up donating over fifty yards of fabric to the local Menites (sorry about the spelling) they promised to make quilts for every kid that graduated from school.

I know there are several organization that would love to use the fabric. Check with your local quilt shop. They use the fabric to make pillowcases for soldiers and kids with cancer. You might be able to quilt along with them.
