I did a your in Afghanistan in 2007-2008. Who here thinks Afghanistan is one of the most forgotten wars? Even though the war has been going on for nearly 13 years now it seems many people think the war is over. Not true. Also Operation Iraqi freedom got almost all of the press and was on the news nearly everyday during most of the 2000s. Had we been focusing our efforts more centrally on Afghanistan instead of WMD in Iraq perhaps we would have caught Osama Bin Laden(in Pakistan) sooner.

Thoughts?

You would be surprised how man people don't even realize that soldiers are still deployed and dying. Many believe that the war ended with the Iraq withdrawal.

I surely haven't forgotten. The war is on the news everyday and not many people can forget. For the most part most people are very aware of the war. We all hope they will be ready to take over for themselves on the ground.

A question for you. Are they ready. I don't think so. THANK YOU for your sacrifice.

Bane, civilians aren't stupid. Get that through your head now. Let me help you with a fact. IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT WE KNOW, IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT THEY HAVEN'T SEEN WHAT WE'VE SEEN, IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT THEY HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED WHAT SOME OF US HAVE EXPERIENCED. Think about those facts and you'll quit being mad. Hell it took me years to realize those facts. Want you to have a peaceful life and not be mad at people who don't know. We have no right to self-righteousness. I have experienced it in my life.

There are a few definitions for 'stupid', the one I think of is 2-"dulled in feeling or sensation"

How about Kosovo? Anyone remember that? I was there 99-2000,
That is definitely a forgotten war..although it was more like an "operation"....USMC

I don't think "forgotten" is quite right. It's become part of "normal." The public is aware, thanks to movies, video game, and Navy Seals with book deals. But it's drug on for so long, no one seems to ask where it's going. It's just accepted as a fact of life. Iraq at least had "The Surge" with the goal of getting the government stood up so we could then pull back.

Forgotten? Try the 240 plus US Marines killed in the barracks bombing in Beirut by Hezbollah! Then Reagan hauled a** and a couple months later sent the 82nd and some Rangers to Grenada to show he was a tough guy "Commander in Chief"! Oh, BTW. 18 were killed there too!

I know it is tough but civilians don't really know the deal in regards to a lot of the missions because they don't trust the media to give them the truth either. True some refuse to listen but if Veteran's; especially functioning ones, would get more active in their communities by banding together maybe things would change.

What is sad is the media has done a pretty good job of making the average civilian afraid of a professional soldier and loath the ones who struggle with issues like Homelessness, unemployment, and mental health issues.
