I do not think it is dead, however it is mortally wounded. Thank the woman's lib movement, and the radical feminists for that.

I had a gentlemen tell me once
"If you always beat the guy to the door how can he open it for you?"
It was a wonderful eye opener for me.
It could not have been said better!

Chivalry is much about the lady as it is about the guy.
You get what you give.
I know many women have told me I'm a true gentlemen but I also know not every woman I have been with have been treated like a queen. That is only given to the ones who treat me like a King.
Perhaps the problem is not with them...

Absolutely it is. Not it is almost lost. The present generation of men don't even know the word mo less know what it means.

I believe chivalry is in each man, providing you are a lady.Take nothing for granted, that anyone owes you.You have to have values of respecting all.
Finding someone with values and ethics of your own being,is knowing when to walk away with still respecting yourself in a kind manor.

I dont know if its so much that chivalry is dead but I think its a matter of mutual respect has been thrown under the bus to the point that many people no longer respect even themselves. JMHO

Chivalry is treating a woman as an inferior who needs your help. There is nothing good about it in todays time of equality.
Even tho I won't agree with you, because it more the term of showing respect.Woman show respect as well.
I'm sorry if you don't get respect.

Kenny Rogers once said, "you got to know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em. Know when to walk away, know when to run!"

As pertaining to the word "chivalry"
It’s been my experience (and this is true)… I constantly get mixed signals when it comes to dating women.
It started in my late 40’s. Examples: Opening the car door for my date and getting an instant reaming (not sure about the spelling) out as to her claiming she’s not a child.
Paying for dinner and getting a verbal reaming there too and the list goes on.
Finally, I stopped jumping out in front of that train and simply take care of myself. Of course I’ve been talked too about that as well… LOL Darned if you do, and darned if you don’t.
As to:
Kenny Rogers once said, "you got to know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em. Know when to walk away, know when to run!"
It admit I don't know when to...
So, since I hardly date now, it’s been smoother/safer… ... LOL

Are there men that want an actual relationship?
What does that have to do with a man wanting a relationship?
Anyway chivalry is not dead.
Women kill any chances of it. Their so busy trying to be "a independent woman" that they forget to let a man be a man, i.e. open doors, do stuff for her or even provide for his family.
I am sure if my generation and the next will never allow men to be chivalrous...times are different and its sad.

The earth still turns, so chivalry is still alive. But it may be on life support. I have been single a long time, and all I can say is that I behave the same way all the time, pretty chivalrous and all that, but the response is a crapshoot. On one end is the lady who was also raised in a manner similar to me and we get along fabulously since we act and respond in the same way. Some others, but they seem to be fading now, are the "independent" women who bristle whenever anyone tries to do something for them, like holding a door.
But what is sad is the vast unwashed mass who really have no clue. No reaction at all, no smile, whatever, in terms of having any knowledge of etiquette and chivalry.
What happens to many men is that they now hold back, since they dont know the reaction they will get, and know that every so often that reaction will be hostile. Sad state of affairs for many.... I keep trying.

You can thank the "Woman's Lib" movement for that. They have been hunting down and emasculating men for the last 45 years.
Every time a man does something out of common courtesy for a woman and that woman puts him down for it, is just one more reason we stop.

I'm sure there are men who continue that old gender role as there are still women who continue the role of keeping to the home and kitchen.

It isn't quite dead; there are still women who think they're entitled to special treatment and men who agree (or just want to play on those women's expectations).
Me, I really believe in equality between the genders. And I'm not emasculated by ideas of equality, I'm empowered by them!

I'm here to tell you that chivalry is alive and well! But unfortunately, it seems to be much less common than it used to be, especially among younger people.

Yes, I do. My mother instilled in me at a very young age how to treat a lady. My father was also a decent example. My grand parents celebrated 60 yrs. before passing away.
For me divorce was never an option. My Ex's had other ideas.

Are there men that want an actual relationship? Sure there is. I'm one of them. With me being a Single Parent I'm finding myself asking that same question of women.
Is Chivalry dead? Not at all. I seen him and cupid getting drunk at a bar , complaining that they lost their jobs thanks to online dating.

Very much alive. This day and age your concern would be finding the person who,can close the last chapter.
And look at a relationship, with hopes, dreams, trust, love, most of all communication.

Someone mentioned Woman's Lib,killed chivalry.I grew up with instilled manners of being a lady. Those values for me will never change.
I find people both sexes more demanding, out spoken, show lack of respect for other peoples thoughts, even tho you don't agree, you can be civil with your reply.
Just with the few listed comments,if both male and female, think first, then react.
Chances are your on same page for a relationship.
