I bought this car this past January
couldn't pass up the deal.Bought it
from a 95yr.old man (true story) had
47k original miles,clean.Paid $3600.00
Anyways,I take the car for oil changes
every 4000 miles.Had a mechanic look at
it last time cause it was making a loud
noise.Said I needed new pulleys on my
alternator,had them change the pulleys
still the same noise. Now I'm told its
a complete alternator cause it has a clutch
that need replacing.
To replace this clutch type alternator just
for the part is $495.00.Don't they rebuild
these anymore? Anyone know where I can get a
cheaper one.Thanks.

You can try and call around, but your best bet would be a mom and pop type of alternator / starter rebuilder. If you can even find one anymore. The one I have used in the past, can rewind and upgrade most units, within the stock housing.
The clutch type pulleys are being used to keep the drive belt from being thrown and or torn up, so it is not advisable to change them back to a regular, solid old school pulley. You would just be asking for problems at that point.
If you are only calling the dealers for this part, then yes, you will be getting charged 2 prices. Someone has to pay for the free coffee, doughnuts, and Wi-Fi in the customer waiting room.
