I know I'm not the only one that often gets messages or notifications from other singles who want to meet me but the are usually 150+ miles from me. One common thing I have learned is that at least here on DH that the are often creepy scammer types, but it got me wondering. If you were to find someone you clicked with here on the site would distance be an issue? For me it would be because I work a min wage job so I keep it to a 50 miles or less before I will agree to meet up for a date.

Cuba, I think it is always nice for the man to travel first. And, you must meet in a public place thus not revealing your home address just in case this first date is a bad event. Have to admit, some firsts are great and some a just a mistake because the guy I had been communicating with had misrepresented himself in many ways.
One was 200 pounds overweight and did not match his profile picture. Being overweight might not be everyone's choice, but as he was eating his O'Charlie's Carmel Pie, he was telling me how he just could not loose weight no matter how many diets he had tried.
One was brave enough to discuss his sexual appetite before the dessert was ordered.
One shopped at Good Will for his outfit, only problem was that he did not wash the pants and shirt before wearing them on our date. Imagine the smell of dusty moth balls. I was so confused, did not know if that was him or the moth protection plan at work.
One only had to drive one hour, but he had a weekend of clothes hanging in the back window. Can we say "over confident?"
I don't care if you are 40 or 60, the man needs to treat his date like she is a lady. So to answer your question, "How far are you willing to travel for a date?" I will drive to any public place in my community to meet any first date, such as Barnes and Noble for coffee, Railway Museum for a tour, Corvette Museum, or a downtown music concert in the park. There are many public places that allow for a change of scenery and face to face conversation for a first date.

I completely agree Lil Irish. I have had many a dates from hades that never even made it to the 2nd date. I never invite them to my home. I usually meet them at a public place and also make sure I am not followed when leaving the place we met up at. I have had many misrepresent themselves but it wasn't their looks, it was their morals and view of what a relationship should be vs what they were really looking for. I agree that men should be willing to come to the woman and meet her where ever she decides to meet at but I know that has been an issue in my area. So many of them have that line of "My car is broke down and I can't afford to fix it, can you come pick me up" or My ex got the auto when she left and I don't have a set of wheels, or it's I'm on disability and can't drive so can you come pick me up..Which I do not mind if it is proven that the are in fact valid reasons for them to without a means of transportation but for the most part, I do not go out with them if it looks like I'm going to be the one footing the bill completely with transportation, meal and entertainment

Sometimes if it is outside my range for a full trip there and I just have to meet someone, I will ask if they want to split the difference and meet somewhere half way for dinner. If there is a connection after that, you can talk about future ventures or solutions.

I agree with your as well cardmaster. I recently drove 99 miles one way to meet a guy. Had a good time or I thought it was, we sit and talked and he grilled a fabulous dinner. He knew it was a long way for me and had agreed if I would come to his town that he would compensate with gas money to get me back home. Well since I refused to stay the night with him and wanted to leave at a decent hour, he told me he did not want to see me and did not hold up his end of the bargain for gas money. I'm glad that I had carried more money with him in case he did turn into a royal butt of a person

I have had long distance dates, relationships and besides the miles to travel for dates, there's the "end game" Someone has to move.
If someone is a ways away and wants to meet, I pay their gas. I can't get away easily. Sometimes get someone to sit the place and critters but that's not an easy thing to get.

I once drove 6 hours to meet someone. He was a great guy and we are still friends. I don't think I'd ever go that far again.

I'm laughing because this reminded me of a phone call I rec'd just last month. This local fellow phoned around 6 PM, and wanted to get out for the evening. Now that said right up front that he was bored and hadn't been able to come up with anything or anyone else to hang out with. Didn't bother asking whether or not I wanted to go out, just said "I'm going to have my daughter drop me off at "the bar", you come pick me up and we'll go dancing.
All I could do was laugh at such an inviting date. Jeeze what a compliment. I said "No Thank You". He was so sure of himself that he wasn't prepared to be turned down and his ego got in the way.
I finally tired of being polite and just said "I'm not your damned taxi service".

My mama's fiance use to drive 6 hours to see her for months every other weekend before he finally moved her from Bull Run,KY just outside of Barbourville to here in Mayfield. They met on the MyYearbook/MeetMe.com site over 3 yrs ago and still got a solid relationship

I've traveled over 100 miles to date someone I already knew...but to meet someone I don't know in a place I don't know scares me. I've already found out that a man can be a real charmer on-line or even on the phone, but when you meet him in person he's very different...
