Don't any of you know where to buy meat? You have to kill innocent animals in the wild for food? Do you live in huts too and not have any running water or electricity?

All game meat is delicious if prepared properly. That does not mean you personally will like it, everyone has different "tastes". For example, some people love Salmon, others can not stand it.

Anytime game meat has a strong or an "off" taste or smell, it was not handled correctly. Thorough cleaning after the kill, and cooling the meat as quickly as possible is crucial.

I had always been told Black Bear was inedible, so the first chance I got, I tried some. It was delicious! I will take bear over beef any day. Of course, if the bear was in starvation mode and eating rotten garbage to sustain itself, then all bets are off. I'm talking about animals living in a natural environment and fish living in clean water.

If you ever see a bar (typically) with a "Wild Game Feed Today" sign out front, stop in and have a sample. In my experience, everything is usually well prepared, and delicious!

You think it's better that the animals (meat) from the store were kept in confined quarters, some are abused and didn't have a free life ever?
They know when they are going to slaughter, oh the fear, vs a quick shot or bow hit?
All the hormones and antibiotics in that meat vs clean, natural living meat?

You live in WI now not NY anymore, you wouldn't even make it down the road if the deer population wasn't controlled somehow.

Congratulations on the 14 pointer, that is outstanding! Now that you have become a successful hunter, you know the range of emotions that run through you when you ethically take an animal. The excitement that builds as the deer approaches, the adrenaline that courses through your body as you prepare your shot, the pounding of your heart, and the closeness to nature and the prayer of Thanksgiving you quietly say to yourself as you dress out your deer.

You have experienced something non-hunters will never be able to understand. You have become part of a family, because we all understand exactly what it is I'm talking about. And, it becomes very easy to recognize the anti-hunters by the incredibly stupid comments they make.

In Northern Wisconsin and the UP, around this time of year, it usually isn't too hard to find a place that puts on a wild game feed. It would be quite a drive for you, and I haven't been there in years, but Billy The Finn's bar near Skanee, Michigan is absolutely outstanding! Fur, fin and feather, they have just about everything, and it's all delicious!
All they ask is a monetary contribution for the efforts of everyone involved, whatever you care to give. All really good people up there.

I would much rather hunt for my meat, at least I know what I'm eating. I skin and gut my own as well. By the way the medications they give the animals such as cows caused the outbreak of mad cow disease. I will keep hunting, I live in an apartment and have running water, electricity. I must cause I have two sons. I also know that it takes pure skill with my range and the buck I got. I enjoy knowing I'm a good hunter

The use of the word "the" in this context implies only one. I'm pretty sure there is more than one lake in Wisconsin or Minnesota, or even Michigan, Alabama, or "Georgis" for that matter.

As of today's date, 10/7/2014, I would also be willing to bet there are no frozen lakes in any of these states. Not even one.

It amazes me that one comment from one individual gives this guy enough comparative census data to do an analysis on the number of rednecks in four states!

I wonder, if I catch fish through a hole in the ice, I guess I'm a redneck that lives in a hut with no electricity and no running water. But, if I buy fish in a store, that means I live in a nice house with electricity and running water. By this guy's "logic", if I buy smoked Salmon in a delicatessen, I suppose that means I drive a Lexus and wear a Rolex?

Hunters are pathetic losers. Fishermen are just as bad. You think it is a sport? It isn't. Wrestle the deer and see who wins. Jump in that little hole in the ice and see if you can catch a fish before you drown. LOSERS ALL OF YOU.

Awww now see here's your problem, you are just jealous cause you have no skill with anything outdoors. It takes pure skill to shoot a deer with only a bow and an arrow. And hate to tell u but archery is a sport. And I would rather fish and hunt for my food then deal with having a risk of mad cow disease. You apperantly have never been hunting or fishing to even know how relaxing it is being out in nature all day. Now you are disrespecting my post and its time for you to leave because we do not need no drama.

I know what it is like to be outdoors, in nature, all day.

Mad cow disease....What Wisconsin women have because all of you look like cows and are always mad about something.

Jealous? Hardly. You people are pathetic. If it wasn't for hunting, fishing and drinking beer none of you would know what to do with your pathetic lives in Wisconsin.

Now run along to your minimun wage paying job and do some work. Yes, I would like fries with that if you aren't already confused.

I have no issues with hunting,as long as you use the meat.Since you have 2 children to feed.I'm sure game hunting helps feed your kids.

Was ignoring this thread and saw the response so thought to check it out. Hmmm...I get an impression immediately about someone who uses don johnson as a handle. Now..was his mother hung up on the actor? Or does he suffer from delusions of grandeur? I started deer hunting at 16 with my dad. And then with my husband. I grew up with a rifle in my hand. I gave it up except for coons in the coop or possums or other varmints. I have gotten soft hearted with old age. Hate to butcher my chickens even. But, do what I have to do. I don't miss starting at one end of my closet to dress for gun hunting and stopping when I can't fit anymore clothes on. Walking in the dark to stand and sit in a stand waiting for dawn. And listening to the rustlings with excitement to find out it is a dang squirrel up early. GRRR! And then the fun of dragging a deer through underbrush after gutting it. Driving into town to register and then back out of the truck to hang it and skin it. Then cut the meat up and package. Sausage is great but the price they charge to make, might as well buy. And I dont care for the taste of venison anymore. I have hunters on my farm. They keep the herd thinned. Because the stupid DNR wants license fees, they delude the people into thinking we are trampled out the door. Reality is there aren't herds anymore. But, there are more deer than there is browse anymore. Since we lack bear, wolves and cougars, they have out-bred the available food. My woods is browsed as high as a tall deer can reach standing on deep snow crust. And if you think a deer shot is terrible...wait til you see a small, young one dragging itself, in skin and bones, to eat a brush it normally wouldnt touch. Or the deer that get turning into a blot when a semi hits it and drags it for half a mile. Nature is the law of tooth and fang. We are lucky to be on the top of the food chain. Any predator is more than happy to eat human flesh. As long as humans have canine teeth, we will eat meat. We can feel sorry for the creature we kill, and thank it for it's sacrifice so we may live. But, whether wild kill in a responsible way, or tortured by living in confinement and never seeing the sun...there is little difference. So donny boy..go buy an Hawaiian shirt and sun glasses and move out of one of the most crime ridden cities in Wisconsin.

Great post, Orz, although I have to differ with you on the lack of bears and wolves. In Northern Wisconsin, there are a lot of both. You are right about what happens when the carrying capacity of the land is exceeded. Disease and starvation results. This is a fact conveniently ignored by the "animal rights" kooks.

As far as license fees, part of that money goes into the Pittman-Robertson fund, a self imposed tax generated by licenses, guns, ammo, archery equipment and miscellaneous hunting equipment. Funds from Pittman-Robertson are set aside to preserve and maintain habitat and game management. That is another fact conveniently ignored by the self-righteous animal rights weirdos.

Crime ridden cities in Wisconsin? Madison holds that record right next to Milwaukee.

The DNR is a useless governmental agency. I have a friend that is a detective for the DNR. He has never held another job in his life. He makes over 125,000 a year plus benefits and expenses. He cried when Governor Walker made him contribute more to his health insurance and pension.

If you think Don Johnson is my real name, think again. But what do you know coming from a town that id Wisconsin needed and enema, Portage is where they would give it.

Go shop at the WalMart there. You will fit in with all the rednecks and other inbreds that live in Portage.

Sorry. I am not a redneck. Was born in Chicago and raised to fit into a city. I loathe walmart, but this town has died so far that it is about the only store left here. I shop from catalogs mostly. I dont live in Portage. I own a farm near it. So dont associate me with that burg.I avoid town like the plague. And when I listen to the news, your town matches Beloit for crime.
I hate the DNR. The name for that acronym here is damn near Russia. Most of what the organization is, is educated idiots sitting in an office figuring out how to screw the public while selling licenses to shot flies. The ones who do work...wardens...are spread so thin that by the time they get anywhere, the lawbreaker is in another county! The only use for the DNR is to TRY to stop greedy hunters from raping everything to extinction. And stop city pests from running all over private property because they think they have the right and everything is public lands. The other bunch that ought to be put down is the BML. Those morons prevent scientists from removing fossils from a cliff so the public can enjoy them. Without comprehending the effects of the erosion that exposed it in the first place.
The DNR has so many hunting seasons for deer now that it runs almost from October to April. They bluff the public that there are so many deer that we can't get out our doors, to sell licenses. And yet deer still die more by cars and winter than anything. They send college kids out in summer to count crap piles in an area and then say how many deer there are. Well according to that method, anyone who has a single head of livestock in a paddock has a 1000. Or perhaps? It is only one that craps a lot?
I know there are bear and cougars moving into the middle of the state. There is food and a lack of hunting.
